I have PSE 5 for Windows XP.
I've got a number of pdf's of old newspaper clippings.
Things like obituaries, etc.
I was wondering if there were some steps I could go through to enhance these?
For example, I just got a page of clips that are three stories from WWII.
The clips are pretty readable. But I did notice that the 'background' of
the clips is bluish in tint. Rather than being the buff color of a real
newspaper. Anyway, if there was a way to crisp and clean these up
it would really be nice.

Thanks for any advice!

Randy... there are lots of different ways to get where you want to go.

Enhance, Adjust Color, Remove Color Cast, will get rid of you tint.
Enhance, Adjust Sharpness

Someone else should come along with another direction.

I've used the Remove Color Cast feature on some other photos and it worked out well. But when I tried it on these photos I couldn't tell that it had any effect at all. I did use the Convert to Black & White feature. That did work pretty well.

Hi Randy ...

I tried some old newspapers a while back and didn't get a good result at all. Inn the end I converted then to B&W and then addes a tint :)

Hi, Wendy.
When you say that you added a tint did you perhaps do that through the 'Convert to Black & White' dialog? Because I used the 'Newspaper' setting and then I noticed that they seemed to look better if I added some blue via the dialog. So I'm wondering if you took the same path.

Thanks.
