Anyone installed it? Does it do anything else besides add Vista support which I don't need? Too much to hope I suppose that they fixed some bugs as well (like the disappearing favorites).
Also curious to know what happened to 5.01 (mine is 5.0 (20060914.r.77) )

Tony, where did you see the update for 5.0. Ran the update check in 5.0 and it says there are none available.

It's on the Adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/). You need to browse down until you find this:

Curiously they have a Mac update as well - that sounded strange but I guess it is possible to run PSE5 and Vista on a Mac

found it but is it just an update for vista or does it include fixes for other problems. don't want to install unless it does. have no desire to acquire vista.

Suzi: I'm hoping someone will try it and tell us ;) . I have no need for just a Vista update either.

I'll be the Guinea pig, downloading now. Will let you know if I see anything different.

Hi Tony ...
Now that is really strange ... as if you do run it on windows on a Mac you use the Windows so the update should be the same

PS ... Just off to investigate :)

Ok, I did it. Restarted Elements and I can't find any differences so far. I was going to tease you all and say "Wow, the undo/redo buttons are back." But thought that was a bit cruel for those who love that features.:D So, maybe someone else will see something I didn't.

Thank you Kim, I think I will wait on downloading it. I was hoping it would fix that pesky program error that pops up now and then.

Wendy, couldn't resist at least telling you all my thought to be a little evil. After all, I only claim to be Angelic, not a total Angel.;)

<whistles loudly> 32.6 Mb? And not a readme or update sheet anywhere?
Must be a heck of a patch....
EDIT: A bit more research reveals that it's a Vista upgrade patch, as noted.

I wonder how long it will take for XP to become obsolete...oh wait...it wont...Vista allows you to run in XP as desired. :) I thought I read somewhere that you can even run it in Win 98...not that i would ever want to do that although it may come in handy for old software

I installed the 5.02 and it seems to be much more stable/solid, if that makes any sense. In addition, I get fewer of those "program" errors. The original 5.0 seemed "jumpy"

Jody:
Don't worry, just give MS some time and they will eventually stop supporting XP just as they have 95 and 98. Once Vista reaches a certain market penetration, or they come up with the next version, XP support will go away. It shouldn't happen for a few years, though. And XP also allows you to run programs in 95 or 98 mode, also. :)

Jodi/Gene,
MS recently announced that they were adding 5 years of "Extended Support" to the "Mainstream Support" for XP Home. Mainstream will continue until April 2009, so the Extended Support will then run to 2014. "Extended Support" basically means they will continue to provide security hotfixes.
"Extended Support" is not normally given to their consumer OS's, so this is a welcome new development, bringing XP Home into line with XP Professional.

Good....that gives me 7 years before I even have to think of upgrading!!

You may not want to upgrade, but I'm assuming if you want to buy a PC now, it will come loaded with Vista. That would scare me away from buying a new computer for another year. I want the bugs to be out of Vista before I even think of upgrading.

It took me almost 2 years to upgrade to XP from 98 because I wanted to make sure (as much as MS can) that the bugs were worked out of it before making the switch. I also build my own PCs so that gives me a few more options, too. I just don't get all the preloaded stuff, but I've been doing this for awhile now and have what I need. Plus I tend to do my upgrades in bits and pieces anyway, not swap out the whole machine at one time. But if you want a brand new PC with XP, you better hurry because the stores have been clearing them out and there most likely aren't that many left on the shelves, if any at all. The deals on the XP machines have been pretty good lately.

Yesterday I bought a (Dutch) version of PE 5.0 and installed it. After that I tried to install the 5.0.2 patch, but the installer reports that it cannot find Photoshop Elements and that I should uninstall it and install again. I did that, but to no avail.
I tried several other options: explicitly run it in admin mode, switch off UAC, but nothing helps.
Could the cause be that it's a Dutch version? Or is the version I have (20060914.r.77) already suited for Vista (it runs)?
Any tips would be much appreciated!

Can't help with why it won't install (I haven't tried yet) but my version (North American) is also 20060914.r.77 and that was bought soon after release so shouldn't be Vista ready so should take the patch. Maybe someone else who has installed it will come along and help solve your problem.

I bought a new hp laptop with Vista, installed PSE5, and the 5.02 update.
PSE5 seemed normal at first but now I notice I cannot email my pictures! It worked great in XP Pro, but will not work with Vista. I also should report I am using Office 2007, and maybe that is the problem.
Also I have a Nikon P1 that takes .mov movies, and I cannot view them on Vista because Apple does NOT have a version of Quicktime that runs on Vista????
So I'm really bummed out about Vista!

The problem with almost every release of a new operating system by Microsoft is that when it is released, there are still a lot of software and hardware vendors that have not yet released their own updates. They do come, but it may be a little while yet. Some things never change.......:(

I thought I read something somewhere about IE7 and outlook express conflicts (maybe outlook as well).
Could this be why your email part is not working??
Just a thought.:)
