View Full Version : TEXT Question

I am taking the layer's course, as well as subscriber to this site. My latest lesson is text layers - video shows text typed on one line, and then somehow, a second line of text is started quite a bit further down and it all stays on one text layer and can be moved together.
However, every time I try to click on 2nd line, it begins a 2nd text layer - I am not sure how it this was done as explained above
Yes, I am a beginner....
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Robin,
I'm at work now (lunchtime!!) and don't have PSE here, but I think I remember what you're talking about.
On the video, the text automatically spaced that far apart after hitting enter due to the setting. Look over on the right hand side of the tool bar and there is a tool where you can adjust the spacing between lines. Go back and watch that part of the video again, it's easy to miss something.
You will get a new text layer if you've already "committed" the first.
Hope that helps, I can explain better later at home when I have access to PSE!

I assume you are trying to edit the text that's already there - grab your text tool and make sure the text layer is open - then carefully click on the text - you have to actually touch the text - if you're having trouble touching the text - make your project bigger so the letters get fatter. Once you touch the text, you will be able to edit the text that is already there. Just edit like you do in any word processing program.
Use "set the leading" to make lines of text move closer together vertically. "set the leading" can be found on your text options line - it looks like two a's on top of each other - it's default is "auto" which which is set up to match your font size - but it can easily be changed to whatever you wish.

Actually I was trying to do my own, duplicating the example. It was only after I could not figure it out that I downloaded the example to see if that would help
It didn't.....
But I will give it a try again tonight - with the tips and advice I get here, I will surely conquer it!
Where there's a will....
Thanks for your help!

Hi ...
I just took a look at it and cats4jan is right ..
If you look in the top right hand corner you will see that the setting is something like 217 ... change yours to that and it will work you tou too :)

Wendy & All -
Rewatching the video and paying close attention to settings on the tool bar worked - found that 217+ setting and that's what I was missing - also I learned to space down (start a new line) to just press the keyboard enter - to exit out of text typing, press the numeric enter :D :D
OOOHHHH! This is so much fun!! I tell everybody I have this wonderful new hobby and I am taking an online course and I am showing off my end results. I cannot believe I was satisfied for so many years with MS Picture It! and MS Digital Image - I don't think I have even opening DI since buying PS Elements.
And I love all of the helpful people here who so patiently answer questions.
THANKS!!!

Robin - I am as excited as you are about this new hobby. I don't do much photo editing - more graphic design and scrapbooking techniques - but I just like to "play" with this program.
Finding this site is helping so much - it's compelling me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.
Unfortunately, when I go on and on about Photoshop Elements - my friends eyes glaze over - I find then it's time for me to stop talking. LOL
Such real fun.

catjan-
You are right - when you start going on and on, you wonder why others don't see the joy and excitement :D :D
As far as my original question in this thread - last night when I watched the new lesson, part 2 of text layers, the first thing he explained was how to accomplish this, but thanks to this board, I already knew;)
THANKS TO ALL!

Hi Janice ...
Hey its great fun isn't it ... and all the new things you learn :) :)
Just noticed that you have added your email address in a thread ... I think that I would remove it if I were you. The trouble is that its an open forum and anyone can see it so its safer not to have it showing ... you could end up on a spammers list (or even worse) :(

I did use my "junk" email when I posted that - (and then if someone emails me I direct them to my "real" email) - but you're probably right - I don't need problems.
