I have recently installed Premiere 3.0 and am having trouble capturing. I am capturing from a Sony Handycam via a firewire. VError message says "Video Capture Offline".

I Checked the computer and it recognizes it so i'm assuming it's the software.

Other software can capture the video but I want to use Premiere as it is more sophisticated.

Has anyone else had this problem and how do I solve it?

Hello,

Did anyone respond to your thread and give advice as to how to solve this issue? I use a Cannon Mini DV and a Sony 8mm dv recorder and I could switch between the two with ease with 2.0. But now with 3.0 I can't capture with either. 3.0 has been troublesome from the beginning. I may re-install 2.0 and live with it. Anyway, please let me know.

Regards,

Todd

Since I have the 2.0 and not the 3.0 version, I have been searching around for possible ideas for you to explore. There are a lot of known bugs with 3 but I have not yet found THE answer.

Have you looked into:

(1) An Adobe Read Me doc for 3, Section on Capturing and Importing Video
Have you tried disabling screensaver before starting the capture as well as any actions that might interfere with the capture?

(2) As per tip in Antony Bolante's book, Are there any unrecorded area in the tape and/or breaks in tape's timecode that could interrupt capture?

While you are waiting for a firm answer at this forum, you may want to place your question in the Adobe Premiere Elements User to User Forum at http://www.adobe.com to get a sampling of opinions there.

Until we find a solution to this problem, I've used the windows movie maker to capture the video. It is saved as an AVI file and you can import the file as if Elements had already captured it. Too bad that we have to resort to outside programs such as Window movie maker and Nero the bring in video and burn a DVD. Adobe has some explaining to do. Come to think of it, I could use Nero to capture also. Maybe I'll try that.

I was just looking to see if worth the upgrade to 3.0 from 1.0. I'm glad I checked here first! That's terrible you can't even capture with this paid program!

You might want to try what I did to recognize my camcorder. http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20315
