Oh how I miss Lilacs! We can't grow them here in Texas but I really miss them. We had several growing along side our house in Michigan.

Thanks everyone.
Ron, sorry, didn't mean to take away from your lilacs here.
Christine, I love them too. We had a huge lilac bush in the backyard and two years ago it died along with another tree in our backyard that bloomed beautiful white flowers every Spring. The backyard is pretty boring now in the Spring, need to plant something new.

I told you that we should collaborate.

Ron, when I started the waterfall photo I had entended to figure out your framing on the butterfly and got sidetracked and did what I did with a totally different photo. It just came to me to try it and wanted to it before I forgot and then never got back to figuring yours out.
Mind sharing. It the background part a concrete image or did you create it? I don't have anything that looks like it.

Kimi,
I have to start documenting what I do, because I don't always remember. What I do remember on that 1 is that I resized the CANVAS and probably picked the colour in the resize window. I looked but dont remember where i found that concrete texture, but it did come with PSE5. The frame is one of Jodi's that I downloaded. I like that look(it was an accident) and will probably use it a lot more.
I'm going to reframe your waterfall and IM it to you. It certainly would lend itself to many, many different treatments.

I have Jodi' Missing Styles CD and I can't find that frame. I will have to download the ones in the Subscribers Area. I thought I had for v3 but can't find them.

Kim,
It came from the free downloads. The name for this style shall be ; exterior matting. I just painted the hell out of a sunflower; it should be up soon.

Ok, this isn't great since I just did it real quick to make sure I got it.

I just used the original pic so it is a bit dark.

Kim,
I believe you've got it. By the way I threw a lasso tool around the water and turned up the contrast a bit.

Ron, the lilacs are very pretty........great texture!
Kim, I like the waterfall in your gallery and the spray stroke filter edging you have used just sets it off nicely IMO........very soothing!

Ron, took forever to catch up on the forum tonight and make it back here. I don't think I have ever used the lasso tool. What does it do. I never thought of adjusting the contrast, I did lighten the shadow on it a touch. I'll have to go back and try the contrast.
Robyn, thanks, so glad you like it. That is the first time I have used the spray stroke and I liked how it came out.
BTW Ron, love the sun flower, great paint effect.

Hey Ron, been a week or so since I looked in on your Gallery....Great additions ....excellent. I like your work, the way you present the photos. Harvey

Kim,
I use the lasso for making selections quickly; where the selection doesn't have to be precise. Once selected with the marching ants moving, play with contrast and brightness until you get what looks good to you.

Harvey,
Thanks again for your comments. I wait until I'm done with the picture and then start experimenting with presentation. Never do want the framing and matting to overpower or confuse the subject matter.
The next time you want to try something different, expand the canvas size an inch or 2. Then add an adjustment layer composed of some texture you get from the drop down menu. Be sure to move the adjustment layer beneath
the image layer, so the image covers all of the canvas except for the part you resized. Have fun.

Ron, again, just caught up with e-mail and the forum. Boy, work sure is getting in the way here.:D I am off the work on the waterfall photo some more. Maybe I can get a final version I am 100% happy with and have a chance at the Editor's Picks tomorrow. Shoot, a girl can dream can't she. ;)

Miss Kim,
Look out; you gave me the idea of working on a waterfall I took in Snosqualmie Falls, WA, or something like that. It will be head to head waterfalls.

Ron, this is what I have come up with so far. I have had several interruptions and kept losing my train of thought (marbles:D )
What do you think, the original is still in my gallery for comparision.

Kim,
I'm not sure; I just had a devilish time with mine. Maybe waterfalls are hard to do.

January 28th, 2007, 11:09 PM
Ron, I agree with that. I kept changing the areas that I adjusted the contrast on. Then I had go back and change the reflections to match. I have posted this version and another new photo in my gallery and started a thread on them for comments and suggestions.

Your waterfall looks pretty good to me. But I had to play with it since you did mine.:D
Hubby says mine version looks like a post card. He also likes yours.
