Check out Linda Judd's new photo in her gallery. It's amazing when see compared to original image. I've got some fall images I'd like to try that on. Maybe we can persuade her to write a tutorial or if she took one direct interested(drooling) people to. Signed the other Linda J(ameson)

I'm back home, now, and will be happy to share the steps that I can remember (I think it's most of them).
1. I started out by adjusting the levels on the original photo.
2. Then I duplicated the layer and set the top layer to multiply.
3. I did a "merge visible" layer, and on it I did Filter>Adjustment>Posterize and a Filter>Texturize>Craquelure.
4. I set my foreground/background colors to a blue and an orange from the photo; then created a new layer and used the gradient tool, set to difference, to make an eye-pleasing combination of blues, oranges, and greens (which appeared as a result of dragging the gradient tool several times on the layer). Be SURE you have the tool set to Difference.
5. Afater I was happy with the colors in the gradient layer, I set this layer to multiply.
6. Again I did a "merge visible" layer, and added lighting (Filter>Render>Lighting Effedcts, using omni light setting)
7. I duplicated this layer and set the upper one to "overlay" mode.
8. Finally, I added more texture with Filter>Texturize>Craquelure.
Now, I have to tell you that this was all done by experimenting, and I may have left out a step. But if you do something similar, you'll want to experiment, anyway, with your specific photo.
Hope this helps :) And thank you for your compliments!

You're all so very welcome. If you try it, please post your image! I just tried it on two more. One worked really well -- the other was a dud! On the one that worked well, I made a couple slight changes. Try different blend modes, for instance, on the gradient layer or on the layer with the light effect. On the top layer, I also zoomed way in, used the magic wand to select a color that was not very prevalent in the image, moved the selection to a new layer, and did a "snappers gold" layer style on it. You can't really see the gold, but when you turn that layer off, the image loses some of its "shimmer." I'll put the new one in my gallery for awhile, too, along with the original it came from.

Linda, that is neat. I'd like to see a frame around the second one too as it seems to make the photo pop more and give your eyes a resting place on the frame which isn't so vibrant.

Linda,
I can't tell you how much fun I've had with this one. All sorts of different effects come about if you experiment. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your technique. I'm amazed you could come up with all the steps, I can hardly ever remember how I arrive at something.
I've put this one (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=16849) in my gallery and here is another.

I've been playing around too and mine doesn't seem to be as striking.
A question for anyone, when I drag the gradient tool thru the image, is it supposed to stay the same color every time you drag it. The second time I drag mine, it comes out a dark color, then the next time the color I wanted.
I'm not too experienced yet at using the gradient tool.

I spent some time this afternoon experimenting using Linda's directions. My results were not as dramatic as Linda's and Robyn's, but it was fun trying!!
I added 3 images to my gallery, this is my favorite:

Oh, they're very pretty, Kim! Each one just turns out different, depending on the colors you start with.
Norma -- make sure you're using your gradient tool on a new layer, above the merged photo one. Make sure your tool is set to difference up at the top of your screen. I chose two colors that were in the adjusted photo for my foreground and background, and then started making random drags acrose the layer. The colors will change as you do this. But I was trying to get the original two colors plus maybe another complementary one, as an outcome. (In mine I started with blue and orange, and ended up with blues, oranges, and green as my final layer.) You just have to play with this layer until you like it.
Hope this helps.

First of all thank you for sharing your technique. I was so impressed with the final result of your photo creation and others who have shared their work I HAD to try it myself. So if you dare take a peek here
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/uploads/16891.jpg
all comments are welcome ... one thing I wasn't happy with was the depth that the craquelere gave to the photo .. maybe too high a setting on the crack spacing.. I'll experiment more and see what other results I get.
Thanks for all the fun ideas!

This is not quite as easy as it seems. It's hard to find the right image. This eagle had absolutely no background - just a dull gray sky - so I thought I would see what would happen with it. I played around with a lot of gradients but when I did this one I sort of liked it. Then I applied the light effects and not a lot happened so I applied again and suddenly my eagle was flying in front of the sun.

Wow! This is as addictive as orbs. I can't believe I didn't see this thread before. Thanks, Linda!:)
For this one I added a step and used a kaleidoscope filter (Mehdi's) on a duplicated layer (I think I also experimented with blends) before applying Linda's technique. I used the blue and orange gradient even though my picture didn't have those colors because I love the colors it produced.
I hope this works -

Diana, yes, it does remind me of that look, too. And are the rest of you finding that the original, hi-res one is more "shimmery" than the "save for web" version? I think these, especially, lose a lot in that process.
