I am new and want to know what kind of pictures that I can post in my Gallery. Ones just done in Photoshop elements, pictures painted in Corel Painter and also worked on in Photoshop elements, pictures just painted in Painter and or PSP, photo's taken with out any work done on them?
Is there rules as to what it was worked on to be considered in the contests?
Thanks
Betty

Hi Betty - Welcome. As far as I know you can post anything. What I like (and I don't do it myself all the time) is when someone says in their comments about how they got the effect. People here are really good about sharing how they do things. If you become a subscriber which is well worth it - there are many many tutorials and videos to follow. It is nice when people say what they have used. Sometimes when I don't feel creative I will go to the galleries to find inspiration - and there is so so much of it in our galleries. I think you will love it here.

Betty hello and welcome. The gallery is yours to post what you want in it. What I would do though is say if it's done in Painter or another such program so that others will know.
I love your work!! I'm currently taking a class in Painter at eclectic academy with Christine Frey. I'm thinking you must have taken the same one as I recognize the flower pot one. Was the other class from there too and if so which one? I have a long way to go with Painter. It's a tough transition for me from regular brushes.

Hi Pauline - I was going to write you a PM but since this is a topic. I think I told you I got Paint Shop Pro 9 with my fast speed card for my camera. Are these classes you are taking for that programme? I have looked at it and it looks complicated and I am not sure if still being at what I call the low-intermediate level on PSE5 I should get involved in something else. I really have not done much on masks and blending in PSE5 and know I still have a lot to learn - however - I am always up for something more. Is this the Painter you use? Thanks.

Hi Betty ...
You can simply post anything you like in your Gallery ... but you do have to watch the file size.
It needs to be 700 pixels on less on the longest side and under 300 K ..
I tend to use Save for web to do that ... :)

No Shari, I have corel painter IX which is a different program.
I looked and Eclectic acamemy does have lessons for psp though
http://eclecticacademy.com/graphics.htm#psp8photo
If you were to take the lessons, I would definately start with the beginner course to get you familiar with all the tools, etc.
If you aren't real comfortable with elements then wait a bit. It is definately easier to learn a new program once you have one of them under control. I tried learning painter and elements at once and that didn't go well, so I quite painter for a while until I was comfortable with elements not to get the two mixed up! It can be very confusing.

Thanks Pauline. Looks like a class I might take later. I often get into too many things at once. Right now I am having some fun with the BuZZ - but that will wear off!!

Hi Shari-
Paint Shop Pro actually has a lot in common with Photoshop. It would be considered a competitor, I suppose. It does many of the same things, although in different ways much of the time.
All things being equal, I prefer PS/PSE. But Paint Shop Pro has it's benefits, too.

I kind of thought it was very similar to elements Mike. Thanks for clearing that up. I have Corel photopaint also which is similar to elements also. also. I never use it as I already have PS, but there are a few different filters etc.
So Shari you might just want to play with it first and decide. If it's basically the same as elements there wouldn't really be any point, but I have a feeling it has the pen tool in it and probably a few things elements doesn't......so depending on what you want to do you might be able to use both programs.

Thank you all for the replies to my post. I will be posting to the gallery as soon as I can get things together and time to post.
To answer some questions asked. Yes, I did take the first session of classes with Christine Frey. They were very good on the tech. side. for Corel Painter IX. I am waiting to take part two until later as I wanted to take PSE 4 part l with Sara Froehlich this session. I continue to take Open Painter Classes with Karen Bonaker, who also teaches at Electric Academy. I take her classes on her Painter Talk site. It is more into the art and actually painting, which is what I really like. They are all excellant teachers.
Painter takes getting used to and you really need a Wacom pen and tablet to make it work right. But it opens a whole new world of digital art to you if you like to paint and create. The brushes and mixer palette are wonderful.
I also have PSP X and like it as it has very good instructions on how to use it. The instruction CD's that come with it are excellant (as with Painter). But I do find myself liking PSE 4 better for the added things it does and I have only had it a few weeks. (But I did have an old version, back before they started numbering them,)
Hope this helps someone.
Thank you all for all your help and all the friendliness here on this forum.

thanks for the information Betty. It's great to know. I definately do have a table (Intuos 3 - 9 x 12) I couldn't imagine using painter without it. Hopefully my skills in painter will improve. It sure is quite different from regular painting, but the brushes are beautiful. It's just a matter of know which one ot pick and how to work with it etc...........For a beginner there is just sooooo much!!

Ah, Wendy, leave it to me to come up with something like that. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw Betty's post and said, na, keep your mouth shut, someone else will say it.......I just couldn't hold back any longer!!:D :D :D

Pauline, I agree on the pen and tablet. I have an old one, think it is 4x5 but I use it with everything, works with PSE 4 too but doesn't do as much as with Painter of corse.
Colleen, thanks for the information. Quess I better be careful what kind of questions I ask.

Ah so it isn't just me then!! I find I prefer the way the tablet works with painter than ps. It's great in ps, but excellent in Painter. It seems much more intuitive with the brushes in painter I thought.

You are of course welcome to upload anything you wish into your Gallery, but since this is an Elements-related site you may want to identify any images that were created with programs other than Elements.
As for Image of the Week contest, since I can't always tell to what extent Elements was used, I don't hold it to a strict standard. Sometimes I pick images based on their composition and content regardless of any specific Elements effect or treatment. Basically I assume that most here are using their gallery to show off what they've done with the help of Elements, whether it was a little help or a lot.

Thanks Chris. I will try to post work that I have used PSE 4 on. That seems best policy on a Photoshop Elements site. But good to know I can combine it with my other programs.
