Moving Catalog

I wish to share a catalog between my PC and laptop. I have seen a thread where if the photos and catalog is on an external or networked drive that this can be done as long as it is only accessed my one computer at a time. I currently have all my photos and catalog on my C drive. I also have all my photos backed up on my external drive.

My question is how can I move my catalog onto my external drive and then read from this drive?
