I have boxes of old slides taken 20-30 years ago that I would love to own digitally. But I am not yet retired and, at this point, do not have the time/resourses to buy a good scanner, buy good clean-up software, learn how to use them, and then scan all the slides I have. I have seen that scanning services are available for 35mm slides with prices ranging from 35 cents to 59 cents per slide (depending on how much cleanup you want done).

Has anyone used an outside service to have slides scanned? Were you pleased?

TIA,
Georgette

I had the same situation and I ended up buying a Nikon supercool 5000 on ebay scanning all of my slides and then selling it back on ebay. The program that comes with it worked well for some cleanup and the rest I am doing in Elements. It ended up costing me less than $100.00 when it was all done.

Sounds like a great idea, as long as you have the TIME to invest to do the initial scanning. I am looking for a service to do the scanning so I can do the "playing" with the pixels. What was the program that came with the Nikon Supercool 5000?
TIA,

It was the Nikon scan program that comes standard with the scanner. I also got the automatic feeder for it that you can load about 50 slides and walk away and let it do it's work. I got it on ebay and resold it there as well. It ended up costing me $30.00. Well worth my time I thought.

Georgette,

First of all how many slides do you have? Secondly, do you need a low resolution scan for, say, a 4x6 output or a high resolution scan for, say up to 10x15 output size. We offer the services you are looking for, pricing varies. PM me and I will provide you a quote.
