After a post in the wrong thread I still think this should be interesting- what if the non-boomers here think I'm retro?
There is a good age spread here.

Do you know how many young adults don't know what a 45 RPM is? Let alone a 78......:D

Ahhh c'mon Gary. I will even admit to having the Partridge Family, The Carpenters and the BeeGees. Hey I was young. I even have Michael Jackson's Thriller in Album, Cassette and CD! I kept all my 45's - going back to the 60's, and all my 8-tracks. My cassettes are somewhat sketchy as they are easily lost. I had an 8-track recorder and thought that was the coolest thing to make my own tapes.
Chas - Funny story - my now 16 year old was in the basement about 8 years ago with me looking for something and we came across the box of albums. She pulled one out, looked at it and asked "is this a giant CD?" Boy talk about feeling your age! She had never seen an album. She was raised on CD's and cassettes. She had never even seen a record player work! I got it out and showed her and she was amazed that the sound came from a needle.

Oh Nancy - what you say is so true. I have an envelope of carbon paper in my memory chest. It has a note on it to show the kids some day and see if they can guess what it is. I loved your image - we got rid of a lot of our stuff moving into a condo. First we were paying monthly to keep a bunch of our boating and other stuff in a locker and then realized we were never going to use it again and why pay - so... I also love your image Suzi. I was born in '42 so it really means something. All of your images are great. I find this forum often brings back wonderful memories for me. Thanks everyone.

Thank you, Shari, so glad you liked it. Had a hard time deciding what part of paper to use as background. As most of the paper at that time was about WW2. So finally settled on the entertainment section and ads.

I had all the Carpenters too! I had to promise my daughter I would not bring them to her wedding though. She said if one person requests Close to You she will scream. Ah kids today - no respect. I used to love the Monkees, The Partridge Family, Herman's Hermits and others until I discovered Marshall Tucker, Lynrd Skynrd, Doobie Brothers, Eagles and so on. Then on to Country, blues, classical and Easy Listening. You name it - I got it.:D

I kinda went the other way.. Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath.
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Dark Side of the Moon.. we used to plunk the 8 track in and it would still be going when we woke up. I think those were the good ol' days .. I really can't remember:D .

Funny timing on this conversation for a music based forum I participate had a thread started a couple days ago of "What was your first album." I wrote my first album I ever owned was a gift from my grandmother, which was The Partridge Family Album. The first 45 I bought with my own money was "One" by Three Dog Night and the first LP I purchased myself was Joni Mitchell's "Court and Spark." The latter was the only one I ever bought in CD although I have to admit a couple months ago on iTunes I bought the song "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" by the Partridge Family. It Rocks! That Danny plays a mean bass.:D
Gary- Hardly a week goes by when at least one track on DSotM isn't played here. Most likely Great Gig in the Sky.

Hey Steven - I just saw this post since I did the one on the other thread. My programmes were 50 cents and yours were only 25 cents. That was a huge jump for a few years. Amazing what we keep isn't it. Actually we are planning a short trip to Seattle in a couple of weeks.....

First album - In A Gadda Da Vida - Iron Butterfly (saved 2 weeks babysitting to buy it)
First 8-track - Jim Croce - Time in a Bottle (still mourn his death - loved him)
First Cassette - The Guess Who
First CD - The Eagles
Funny thing - I've replaced most of my albums with CD's just so I can still play them. My stereo is so clunky it's a pain to have out and I can't find a replacement needle.

Nancy- I still have 4 crates of LP's and a stereo in the garage to play them. The needle is getting a bit worn but sometimes I am in the mood for vinyl. I used to have 8 track but never liked how some songs changed track mid flight, so I never saved my old tapes. I have a couple old cassettes I made at a very young age, taping off the radio by holding the microphone to the speaker. It's funny to listen to what you liked at 12 years old; from Spirit (Mr. Skin) to Helen Reddy (You and Me Against the World)!
Is it true that Iron Butterfly was so wasted that the vocalist couldn't say "In the Garden of Eden" and it came out In A Gadda Da Vida, or is that just an urban legend?

That's how the story goes - but who knows. Here's a fact sheet on the song:

I keep waiting for Bill to post the challenge "Classy Lady Figurines from the 40's with a Plastic Purple Flower Hat" but since I'm still waiting I'll use the retro theme instead.
Dang, there goes next weeks theme.:) Beautiful shot by the way.
