I am using Photoshop Elements V3, Windows XP, and an Epson 4180 scanner. Within the past few days hundreds of my thumbnail photos have the missing files icon. Almost all of these were old photos that I scanned. I have tried everything listed in the Help Menu to reconnect these files but no luck.
What am I not doing to resolve this problem? What could possibly be the reason for this to occur? Are these files lost?

Just saw your thread. Did you by any chance move the pictures around outside of the organizer????
Do you know where they are? If you do, you can go to reconnect them and BROWSE to the location and they should reconnect.
I have moved a ton of my files to my external and had some issues, so I think I may be of some assistance to you. Well, I hope so anyway!

If you did not move your photo files outside of Elements (like using Windows Explorer), do you use an external hard drive for your photo files?
Windows often assigns different drive letters to an external hard drive when you connect it to your PC. This can cause files to be disconnected in the Organizer because it tracks using drive letter.
After connecting an external hard drive, you can use the Windows Contorl panel Administrative Tools Disk Management to set the hard drive letter the same as it was when you catalogued these photo files in the Organizer.
