I have many thousand photos scanned with Elements 2,3,4 & 5. PSD format.
Separate layer with the captions.
Can anyone suggest how to use the text in the captions to create some kind of searchable database?
I know there are many programs that can search by adding tag or keywords.
Lots of work for many thousand photos.

Thanks to anyone with an idea.

Do you want to create a Database or just search for your existing images by Caption contents?

You can search for words within the applied captions in the Organiser, if you have Elements 3 onwards on a PC and all your images are Cataloged in that.

Go to Find > By Details and on the first drop down box select Captions/Description.

The only I know of is the way Colin explained. Good luck organizing.

I may be way off base, but here is a more complete description of my goal.

I have a web site with many hundreds of historical photos that are not serchable by keyword. They are just organized by subject.

I was dreaming of somehow being able to search for a keyword or any word that may be included in the text caption I had added to each photo when I scanned and edited them with Elements.

The caption included in the photo text layer would have the same file name as the photo itself and therefore be photo would be found.

As an example:
A search for "Factory Fire" would find any photo that the text caption I added to the image contained "factory" or "fire", etc...

I may barking up the wrong tree. Just a thought on my part.

Thanks again for any comments.

If the images are on your web site then I'm guessing they are JPEG images. This means that any text you added to the image isn't text in the true sense. They are just pixels that happen to spell out words. In which case you wont be able to find that text in the image unless you have some very clever software.

The Image file can contain keywords such as the Tags you apply in the Organiser but typically if you've used a Save for Web function all this extra data gets stripped out.

If the text is the same as the file name then you should be able to search the web site for the filename but that has nothing to do with Elements and you would have to implement a search function on your site.
