I have dust on the sensor of my camera, and need to send it off to get cleaned. Does anyone know a cheap place that can do it for me?

I recently took my Canon to the local Canon repair center and they cleaned the CMOS for $10 while I waited.

If you bought your camera at a "full service" camera store, take it back there.

If you bought at a "retailer" -- such as Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, etc. -- take it to a "full service" camera store.

Don't screw around with it yourself and don't let somebody like Wal-Mart, or even Best Buy touch it. I would be very suspicious of somebody (on the web?) that's "cheap".

PS - the previous post came in while I was typing - YES, that should be the 1st choice option if you have such an outlet in your area.

You didn't say what type of camera you have.

1st is a good blower - google rocket.

Also it is easy to do yourself - http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=tutorials

About 50 bucks worth of supplies.

If you learn to do it you won't regret it.

Unless you are near a large store that can do it - it's a send and wait deal - they charge too much for a 10 minute job, and often - it is still dirty.

If you use your camera a lot and changes lenses - dust is inevitable.

I called the Ritz camera that I bought my NikonD50 from, and the man said that the store would have to ship it off somewhere and it would cost me around $100

Is this true?

I don't have a Nikon store near me, is there any other type of store that I could try out?

$100 is outrageous, in my opinion. Have you looked on the Nikon site for the nearest service center?

Sounds to me like you should give PaulH's suggestions a try, certainly before spending that kind of money...

When I was having a problem with my Nikon camera a couple of years ago I called the 800 number for Nikon. I had to use the east coast number and talked to someone there about the problem. They gave me the address and how to send the camera into them to be checked out. Once they had the camera and checked it they were able to tell me how much it was going to cost to fix it. Then I could give them the ok or have them ship it back to me. I was very pleased with how they handled the repair work. My camera needed the mother board replaced and at the same time they upgraded the latest softwear in it. I would give them a call and talk to someone at Nikon and see what they tell you.
