I currently have photoshop elements on my hard drive and need to transfer it to a new computer hard drive. I have tried to just copy from one to the other, but it will not open. Also, I do not see a file for installing. Any ideas?

do you have the installation disk? Most applications can't just be copied from one computer to another - they get installed with changes to the registry and additional drivers, etc., added to the system.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. I agree, reinstalling your program is the easiest way. If you use the organizer you may want to search the forum on answer to that question, I think there were a thread regarding coping organzier from one computer to the other. Good luck.

If you're using XP, you could try the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to move the Elements Folder and that should also carry over the settings to the new drive - assuming you have XP installed on that drive. You'll need to have the hard drives networked. Its not always clean, so your best option is to re-install the software then use your backup to rebuild the Elements catalog.

Slash, how do you "use your backup to rebuild the Elements catalog"?

If the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard doesn't do it properly... but it should.

Of course this assumes that there is a catalog backup to restore and Elements had to be re-installed on the new machine. In your earlier post you alluded to using Organizer and that is correct. Restore Catalog from within the Organizer will move the images (and associated tags?) from the backup to the new machine and the file paths should be the same. Then it is a good idea to do a re-connect after the restore.

There are different methods to do the restore on the Adobe support site, and it will probably be PSE version specific. I did a restore from backup for PSE3 about a year ago when I moved to a newer machine and I don't recall any <major> problems other than some misisng tags. Maybe I shouldn't have wrote "rebuild the elements catalog"? - it does look confusing now.
