View Full Version : Downloading PET Extras

When I download the zip file for PET Extras from Vol 2 #3 and open it with WinZip. I do not get two folders as described in the video, but just a set of *.atn files and two *.psd files apparently containing icons.

I created two folders in Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\Previews\Effects called PET - Productivity and PET - Special Effects as described and extracted the appropriate files to them from WinZip. I then deleted the cache and restarted PE and everything seemed to be fine except - when I select Styles and Effects/Effects in the Pallette Bin and any one of the drop downs (All, Frames, etc.) the Icon at the top left does not work. It has a crossout symbol instead of a hand and cannot be selected. Strangely, if I select All from the drop downs the the Channel Mixer icon works (it is not at the upper left), but if I select PET - Productivity the Channel Mixer icon shows up at the upper left and does not work. I don't understand this behavior.

hi hdchad,

Welcome to the forums :)

I'm not sure what has gone wrong here, but the download file definetly contains two folders - PET Productivity and PET Extras. I just checked that the download file is ok.

I suggest that you download it again.

Let me know how you get on...

Yes,
I've double checked it as well and I see the two files also. Let us know and we'll try to troubleshoot.

hdchad,

I also suggest that you undo the folders and files you installed and then follow the instructions per Matt's video tutorial.

If you have any questions or problems after downloading the zip file again just post and we will happy to help you.

The first problem apparently had to do with the version of the ZIP reader that I was using. I downloaded a new version and it behaved as described. I deleted my previous folders and the cache and followed the procedure in the video, which seemed to work fine.

However, when I open PSE I still have the problem that the effect called 35mm Frame does not work when I use the List view and select either All or PET - Special Effects. Even more wierd is that when I use the Thumbnail view the top left icon does not work whichever set I select from the dropdown list. This is 35mm Frame when All or PET - Special Effects is selected, but, for example, Brushed Aluminum Frame when Frames is selected.

I tried deleting the Preferences file, but it made no difference.

Hi hdchad,

What happens when you use the 35mm film strip?

The top left thumbnail shouldn't be usable - it represents your original and the others show what affect each tool would have on the original.

Did you delete the cache before restarting PSE3?

I cannot use the 35 mm Filmstrip effect. I get a circle with a crossbar when I put the cursor on that icon, which is always in the top left position. I did delete the cache, also the Preferences file. It sounds like there is some kind of placeholder for the top left icon that has gone away for some reason. This is not a big enough problem that I want to start over and reload PSE from scratch (I have already done that a couple of times for more serious problems), since I doubt that I would ever use this effect anyway. I am just curious.
