A major winter ice storm is creeping ever closer. They said to expect up to an inch of ice by morning, then a second storm tomorrow evening, then a THIRD storm Sunday evening. The last go round we lost power with 1/2 inch of ice and were without it for 3 days while some were without for over a week and that was with only 485,000 homes losing power. They are predicting that up to 1.5 million could lose power from this storm through Missouri and Illinois. If you don't see me for a while - SHIP BLANKETS!:D

Crazy weather, Nancy,

I don't know where you are in Illinois but I'm in the next state up. We are setting records for warm weather. We just missed by one day setting a new record for consecutive days with temps not getting below 32 degrees (that's C-zero for all you backwards folks). We went 30-something days before it hit 31.

We had a big snowstorm the 2d or 3d of December -- nothing since. I will have to get the lawnmower out if this keeps up :)

Hi Nancy

Kirkwood here…. ice is already bending the trees…but at least they caught the child kidnapper and saved the two boys… I ordered pizza from that guy all the time and live two miles from him… gives you the shivers and I don’t mean cold.

Nancy I do hope you don't lose power or heat or anything. We are only expecting snow showers for the next several days here in Mid-Western Michigan. No talk of accumulation as of yet but temps have finally dropped to the low 30's and high 20's here. Will keep my fingers crossed that the storm doesn't leave you without power again.

OMG!!! I was STUNNED when they found the second boy there. I had given him up for gone a long time ago. Wow - this is just incredible. How about Sheriff Toelke though? Less than 6 months time two different stranger abductions in his county and both children were recovered on the 5th day. The one boy had been missing for over 4 years and was from a different county but who would have ever dreamed?

Trees are starting to bend here too.

Nancy,

I am trying to send over some of my hot weather for you but every time I hit the "send" button I am refused access :D On a more serious note, I hope you and yours do not suffer too much with the bad weather.

Karen :)

I just watched the story on the news. That is so amazing that the second boy was there after all this time.

Butch, you would think that they would screen even the Pizza Dude since they do deliver to houses with children and often some home without parents.

He had delivered to me many times... I even left money with my daughter and went to get soda and he delivered one time.

Just a shock... unbelievable!!! Those poor boys… it will take years to trust anyone… I hope they can recover and move on with their lives.

OMG that must have horrified you when you found out who he was.

Just saw our local weather. Looks like we are not going to get the ice but could be getting a pretty heavy snow Sunday night and Monday. They are showing snow every day through Thursday and temps staying in the low 20's.

Send us some of that weather, please! Yesterday it was 63° here!!!:(:mad:
There is no snow for skiing and the apple trees and grapevines will start budding soon at this rate and we need cold before that happens. A freeze afterwards would be a catastrophe!

I know what your talking about. We've been having very warm temperatures here too for the time of year. I was out walking today and this is what I saw a few streets away from us....

These tree don't usually start blooming until late march early april

I heard on the news here last week that 2006 was the warmest year ever since the beginning of recorded temperatures (1703). It's not even freezing at night now which is most unusual for January. Today is a mild day with 12 degrees Celcius

Nancy and Butch- We'll be thinking of you (while it's 50 degrees in Maryland!) I just read the story about the boys being rescued, and it gave me a chill. I will be praying for those boys, especially the one gone four years. I loved seeing a picture of him with such a smile. I hope he can heal.

11:20 am here in Central Iowa and it is now snowing. Supposed to get 2 to 3 inches today and another maybe 4 on Sunday and Sunday night. The wind is supposed to start on Sunday afternoon and blow all night. Going to make a mess out getting the wife out of the garage Monday morning so she can get to work. I offered to teach her how to use the snowblower so I wouldn't have to get out of bed,:D (I'm retired), but she said some not so nice words. LOL:D

We are getting the ice storms too here in North Texas but I am sure it isn't as bad as up where you all are!

Made it through round 1!
We only got about 1/4 inch of ice because the temps just kept hovering around freezing. The roads were fine because they were still too warm. It was 59 degrees at noon yesterday and freezing rain and upper 20's to low 30's all night. What weather!!!! We are supposed to get round 2 in about 4 hours so we'll see how that goes. They really got hammered about 10 miles west of Butch who is about 20 miles west of me.

Saw the weather, Whoa!, Y'all be safe with that freezing stuff! It has been wierd here too. Mostly warmer than usual. And lots of things already blooming that shouldn't The grass was cut Thursday too.
I couldn't image trying to go out in the snow and ice part. I've never driven on snow.

I sure got the chilly bumps after reading the earlier part, so close to Butch.
OMG, so glad the boys are found and back home. I'm sure it will still be a tough road for them.

Hang in there, Nancy. Stay inside. Sounds like good Photoshopping weather. We're actually pretty cold up here, too. It's currently snowing as I type this, and we have about 4-5 inches on the ground where I am, with icy back roads, etc. Our hills make driving exciting.

Ah, winter...

Oh Butch - I cannot believe that. I think everyone has been following the story and so happy the boys were found - but to have actually talked to the guy and having him deliver pizza to your daughter - I really hate what this world is coming to and all the freedom that is being taken away from us.
On a weather note I am listening to another report of snow for tonight. We have had soooo many storms - losing power, Uprooted trees, icy streets (I cannot take the chance to walk home from the gym in case I fall - this getting old is for the birds!). I have always loved the snow and wished I lived back East at this time of year - but I think I am changing my mind! Happy New Year everyone - I have not been around much.
