I have shot some RAW/NEF images with my Nikon D50.

I have tried unsuccesfully to load them into PE3, despite the fact that I have installed the latest Camera Raw 3.6 update.

The error message that I get reads like this (I am translating from my local language):

"PE cannot obtain the files from this device. Check that the device is correctly connected and that the battery is charged, then retry"

(Obviously, device is connected and battery is charged)

Can someone help, or should I abandon PE5 for Nikon's PictureProject?

Thanks.

Gianni

I shoot with a Nikon D70s in raw format and also use the raw plugin. However, I don't use the plugin to download the pictures. When you plug the camera into your USB port, XP should open a dialogue box to download the pictures. I just point that to whichever folder I want the new pictures to go to. Then when I open Elements, it finds the new pictures. At that point, the raw plugin does its thing and allows Elements to "read" the files so you can see and edit them.

Most probably, RAW files from your camera are not supported by PSE 3.
Unlike Photoshop, Elements doesn't allow the Camera Raw plugin upgrad.
You either upgrade to newer PSE, or use Nikon's converter.
