I'm always so uncertain if I've actually created something pleasing or if trying too hard and making something too harsh.
Suggestions please?

Thanks Will.
I'd like it a whole lot more if the picture was better to begin with. I didn't remember until later in the day that I had reduced the size of the capture in the first place. Ended up with a pretty poor photo.

Mary
Great expression on her face.:)
I'm with you on this. I like the bright colour but I'm not sure if it goes.
Just a thought to play with..if the background/pattern/frame part is on its own layer try a hue sat adjust ment layer and group it together. Pick colourize and you can slide the sliders to change the colours and see if any strike your fancy.

I always take my pictures at maximum -- that gives me more opportunity to work with it in ways that I haven't thought of yet.

Mary, you did a great job. I like the layout and the way you presented the photo, you had such a great model, she's a cutie.

Mary - what a sweetie! How cute!
Did you maybe try choosing different colors from the photo using the color picker for your really wonderful frame? Then you can pick the color that sets off the picture best with a color from the picture. I like to do that to get a well-coordinated frame or background. It can really make the photo pop!!

Thanks for all the terrific suggestions here. I appreciate that.
This is perhaps a bit better.
I'm thinking I need to get back to class again........need more push to try out things and direction to possible successes....:o
I normally take photos in the larger format, just messed up with this particular day. Still learning the new camera........:D

What a little doll! I like the bright color, it matches some of her beads in her necklace. I think you did a great job.

Mary, great portrait. She is so cute! I do like the pink better than the brighter color. Call more attention to her I think.

I like what you did with it. I do like the bright color, because she is a kid and kids love bright colors. I might tone it down just a tad, but I like the suggestion of checking out some other colors. I would go to the beads and try the green, the peachy color......as many as you are willing to click on. Personally, I think the pink is a little to light.....washed out. I also remember loving those candy beads!!! I think it deserves a bright (but not overpowering) frame!
She's a cutie!
