Help please. I must be doing something stupid. I downloaded and unzipped the file and followed the following instructions form another post:

Installing Layer Styles PSE5. First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:

C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles

To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles

I have tried it by just dragging the file into the shortcut created-didn't show up then created a folder for it and put it in that. Now it shows up in print only in the drop down box under layer styles but it isn't there. A new icon was added ( I think) that say "default style" with a red line through it but it doesn't do anything and when you move curser over the symbol, it says "none". I have put quite a few things in using this method and it worked fine but can't get this one to show up. Thanks for any answers.

It should work like that - where did you get the zip file from? Mine came from Adobe Exchange and it wasn't zipped - just an asl file which I dropped into a new folder I called Golden Styles - so the path looks like:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Photo Creations\special effects\Golden Styles\danlewin-gold.asl

That works for me.

Tony

Edit: I think you have too many folders - don't put it in Layer Styles - make your own folder Called Golden Styles (in Special Effects) and put the ASL file there

also add the .asl to

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements x.0\Presets\Styles

thank you both for replying. You were right Tony- it wasn't a zip file, I couldn't remember and most people always ask if you did the obvious first so I put that in. Hard file to find at the Adobe exchange!! It worked when I created a folder for it. And thanks Graffi- I added it there also. Actually checked and it was there. I got the hint:D . Thanks again to both of you.
