I am new to Elements and have just been experimenting with the magic extractor. I can select the part of the image I want in one image and then move it into the second image but when I try to save this new modified image with its own file number (usuallyfile name -1 psd) I get a greyed broken image in the Editor. I hope I am just missing a basic step. Thanks for the assistance.

Hi

Sorry .. I don't quite understand what you mean by a greyed broken image??

You are saving as -1.PSD not -1 PSD?? with the . before PSD I'm also not sure if - is a valid character for filenames. I do know that _ is.

I just tried both ways and it worked. I saved as -1 PSD and it named my file -1 PSD.psd. Then I saved as -1.psd and it saved.

I'm not exactly sure of the problem they are having. What do you think it is?

One thing, if you save without the . then windows won't know it is a psd file and won't open it in elelments or anything else for that matter.:)
You can definatley save without the . I just like my extensions:D .

I wasn't sure about the - .. guess I was wrong.:o

You are absolutely correct. I'm not sure what she was talking about when she states she had a "greyed broken image" when she tried to save. If she don't get her problem worked out maybe she will explain more.

Thanks for the reply. By the greyed image I mean that after my attemp to save the modified image, when I open the Organizer, there is no photgraph - only a rectangle with two halfs of a "broken " sheet of glass that has jagged lines. There are two shades of grey.
hope that helps.
