With the Organizer open, click Edit>Preferences

Go to the section called Camera or Card Reader, and untick the "Auto Launch Adobe Photo Downloader..." option.

That'll do it. If you want more indepth removal, you can go into the registry (on Windows), but this should make it stop auto-loading.

Thank you Graffi. Not sure if that will work ,because what is going in there is from the Editor, but I will find out later on .
Thanks Storm

Do you mean you want the box to include the file in the Organiser when you save a file to be unticked as a default? If so, I'd like to know how to do that too.... there doesn't seem to be a setting in preferences.

ah, now I see what you mean. I thought you meant stuff getting sucked into the black hole when you connected a camera or something.

Unfortunately, you'll have to remember to untick that option every time you save a project - or, at the very least, just go in and delete from the Organizer every so often.

...which really does kinda bite, now that you mention it... why can't that be a sticky option?

Here's a link to a post where Wendy answers this:

For Elements 3, not sure if it's still good for subsequent versions:

My standard answer
Ignore the checkmark and let it write the entry to the Organizer database. It is just one line of text and takes up very little room. If you never open Organizer, it is of no consequence.

I do agree it would be a nice to have an ON/OFF switch for those people who find the checkmark irritating.

I would like to have that ON/OFF switch too, as I really have no use for the Organizer side of PSE. I do open Organize every couple of weeks and just delete the photos that end up in there because I forgot to uncheck the box when I saved a photo in Editor.

The organizer seems to be a love/hate part of Elements. I use the organizer, but I think it could be improved a lot. Maybe in 6 they will have an on/off switch or rewrite the program to where it actually works in a way people would use it.

I would like to disable the organizer as I never use but following Wendy's instruction I ran into a snag. I have Elements 4.0 and in the administrative tools/services there is no "Photoshop Elements Device Connect" line.
Also I cannot find the "PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe" in Progam Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 4.0
Thanks in advance

Hi Pam ...

I guess that you found an old post for those instruction ... They came from the Adobe forum and I'm pretty sure they were for PSE3 but I did find this thread where someone used them sucessfully in PSE4:

Thanks I found what I was looking for. I need a new computer this one is 5 years old and I'm running low on resources. I'm just trying to free up some space until I can get a new computer.

How odd, I have CS2 BUT still use my Organiser as my DAM workflow. It does all my cataloguing.

What's more, numerous people have uttered the word "DAM" when using the Organizer :D
