View Full Version : Question for Mac users?

I am having issues with this site on my new Mac that make no sense to me. When I log on to PSE from Safari it shows my user name and a password (dotted out) with remember password checked. I click on log in and then go to the forums. At this point, in the boxes at the upper right side, it looks as though I have never logged in, the boxes are blank. There is no CP user tab on the tool bar. If I try to post a message I get asked for my info again and when I give it, I am told that I don't exist! Cookies are enabled and pop up blocker is unchecked. I have added no security software. It is a brand new machine. I am fine on my PC. I have shut down and opened new windows. I don't know what else to try. I do disconnect from the internet with my PC when I am trying to get on with the Mac.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
CarolLHB

Debbie-
I have no clue wht's going on with that unfortunately-have you tried using another browser, like Camino or Firefox?

Hi Debbie ...
That does sounds strange ... I don't like Safari but I have never had any problems using it on this site.
Follow Carol's advice and try another browser ... my favourite is Camino:

Do let us know how you go on :)

Just curious - have you highlighted the dots on the password and re-entered it? - Somehow the wrong password may have "snuck" into the spot and therefor it won't let you into the subscriber area.
Just a possibility.
I use Safari all the time and haven't had any problems - except for one spot - where the wrong password was in the "remember my password" spot.
Hopefully that is all that is needed.

Yes, I have tried re-entering all of the info, but I still can't get on.

Debbie,
You may need to empty Safari's cache. To do this, go to the Safari menu, and go down to "Empty Cache". This deletes the saved items such as passwords, cookies, and the like. You'll need to retype them at each website that uses them.
If that doesn't work, you can try something a bit more "drastic". This is to reset Safari. Go to the Safari menu and and drop down to "Reset Safari." This clears out a bunch more stuff ... you'll find that you'll need to type in a lot more information that was formerly saved in your browser.
Let us know if this helps.

I emptied the cache and did a reset, but it did nothing. Do you think that throwing the Mac through the window into the Koi pond would help? Almost just kidding!

When I go to log out, I get a screen that says Subscriber Login: News Flash! Updated Subscriber login features. It goes on to state that I need to create a new user name and password. It then asks for my name and email. When I type that in, it again says that it is invalid. I have had my login and password info sent to me by the site twice and it is exactly what I think it is. I don't get it. I am wondering if I need to get completely taken out of the system and then re-register.
Thanks for the help. I have been working on this for hours and am very frustrated.

I'm sure you've already checked this, but just in case ...
User names and passwords are case-sensitive. For example, typing in Teacher617 is different than typing teacher617. Do you think that could be the issue?
Also, which version of Safari are you using? Mine says version 2.0.4 (419.3).
Hopefully we can sort this out ...

Debbie ...
There two logins ... one for the subscriber area. Which sound like the ones you are looking at initially.
Those instructions, the News Flash ones only need to be used the first time you access the subscriber area ... after that you ignore them and just fill in your subscriber area username and password.
The other login is for the forum ... you need to login to that one as well.
The reason there are two is simply because the subscriber area and the forum are two separate things and you can belong to one without the other :)
Hope this helps :)

Thanks to everyone. I resolved it today. I knew what my passwords were, because I always write them down. Since I was able to log in on my PC, I went to user CP and did a password change. Then I went back in and changed it back to the original one, because I like it! hthttp://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.giftp://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif I was immediately able to log in from either computer! I have no idea what the issue was, but I am glad that this worked. I am putting that one in my book of tricks for sure!!!

The smiley thing didn't quite work out as I planned. I think that it has been a long, long day!!!

My guess is somehow a password got corrupted - at least you found the work-a-round - but boy that can be frustrating.

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.. in Mac OS, there's a utility called Keychain where all your passwords, web and otherwise are stored. You need to supply your admin password to unlock the keychain and after that, you're free to view what your passwords are. Very helpful for when you don't remember something or when a mismatch occures.
That said, you can also use it to store your own personal information (licence numbers, passwords, etc.) by creating a new entry.
Have fun :)
