(Never downloaded to PE5 before) Downloaded Nagel Series 21 hair brushes. I saved it to my desktop. Instructions said to expand it (I just opened it), at this point it had a blue brush on the opened folder....then I had my Adobe/pe5/presets/brushes up and just clicked and dragged from the my desktop to the (brushes folder). When I opend up the brushes folder I seethis folder with the Nagel hairbrushes 21, but it looks like a zipper folder, not like the others wth a blue brush on it. So I clicked on the zipped folder, and a pane on the left said to extract, which I clicked on. When I down loaded I did not have PE5 lauched, it seemed as if the directions said not to, only launch pE5 after th download is complete. HELP..GOOD GRIEF I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I HAVE DONE. (I am trying to learn by doing, and thought the directions were pretty easy...I must have missed something somewhere. Right now my Presets/brushes has all these beautiful common brush icons, but there is an ugly yellow folder with a zipper across it. I followed directions for extracting...or so I thought...Help please. I feel like the village idiot. thank you Pat

What you need to do is extract the files to a temporary folder (or any folder that you set up for this purpose) -- then click and drag the brush ICONs to the preset folder.

Apparently the zipped file was moved in this case. Just click and drag the zipped folder back to desk top or somewhere and then extract.

Hey Pat

Don't sweat it.:)

Most downloads of this type are zipped (compressed) files.

Take the zipped file back out of the brushes folder and put it back where you had it.
Double click on it and it should bring up some sort of decompression program if there is an extract button click on that and see if it asks where to extract to.
If it does ..pick the brushes folder. Restart elements and all should be fine.

I have a special folder set up just for downloaded brushes. I keep all my zipped brush files in there. I also decompress my zipped files there as well so I would have two files of each brush set (not necessary though) one zipped and one unzipped.
I then take the unzipped one and copy it to my presets/brushes folder.

Let me know if this works. :)

I did that lots when I first got started. Now I download to my desktop. Then I can see what I am doing. Unzip and drag the item where it belongs. :p

Pat,
You have probably already resolved your problem, but just in case not. Here is what I do to unzip zipped files---- Right click on Zipped Folder-Select> Extract All- at Extraction Wizard- Select> Next- at the new window Select Browse- at the Select a Destination Window I usually choose> Desktop- then click >Next then click >Finish.... The extracted files should now be on Desktop to be either Copied + Pasted or Dragged + Dropped into the proper Elements folder. Doug

Thank you Will, Gary, Kimi and Wendy. I dragged the unzipped file back to my desk top, nizipped, and named presets/brushes as my destination. It worked and thanks so much. I will remember to not only click on the desktop icon of the download, but to actually open it up. One more question. Since I new to trying to make the most of the organizer. I highlight my pic, go to editor, but if I want to bring in another picture, i do file/open, which is my harddrive.? It seems to be much faster to do file ope than to go back to organizer pic a picture and go back to edit. Essentially, I have the same thing in harddriveand oranize? Am I not getting the picture> just trying to get a perspective of how this actually works. thanks for your help. As you can tell I do not do spell check....Pat

Pat

Glad you got the brushes working.:)

The organizer is a database of thumbnails of your images and the "location" of the photo. not the actual photo.

When it opens in the editor it is opening the same file as you would, if you went to file>open in the editor.

That is why it is essential that any moving/delelting/renaming etc. of your "organized" files be done in the organizer. If you do those things outside of the organizer (via Windows) then the database does not know what is going on and gets all messed up.
