Hello-

I'm having much difficutly geting my computer/Premiere Elements to see my camcorder. Below are some info of the system and hardware I'm working with:
-Windows XP Home
-Premiere Elements 2.0
-Sony DCR - HC 36
-FireWire 800

I have been trying to get Premiere Elements 2.0 (PE) to recognize my Sony DCR-HC 36 mini DV camcorder.

I originally installed the software that came with the camcorder, including a Sony USB driver. I read on a forum, or perhaps the Adobe website, that this may cause PE to not recognize my camcorder. I'm unable to uninstall the driver since my add/remove program function in XP can't find a file to start the uninstall. However, I don't believe this is my problem as I'm connecting through the FireWire card, rather than USB.

I've tried completely removing PE and Photoshop from my computer, as well as the Sony software. Once I removed these programs, my DVD-rom and CD-RW drives were not recognized by XP (error code 39). I was able to find a fix for this on the microsoft website (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060).

I'm now stuck at a stage where I have un- and reinstalled PE multiple times and have discovered that with PE uninstalled, XP recognizes my Sony camcorder. However, once PE is installed, the camcorder no longer appears in the "My Computer" window.

I know that this can work because for a brief but shinning moment when I first connected everything it worked. Then all of a sudden PE said my camcorder was offline right in the middle of video capture. Ever since then, I haven't been able to get the darn thing to work.

I would greatly appreciate any help!!
-Thanks-

I have the same problem as you are experiencing but with elements 3.0. My camcorder is a Sony DCR-DVD100e and does not seem to be supported by elements 3.0. I've contacted Adobe support for guidance but as yet have got no reply. Have you had any joy yet or found a solution?

I am having the same problem with Premiere 3.0. My handycam is recognized by my computer but not by Premiere 3.0. Have you found a solution yet?

I have Premiere Elements 2.0 and have done minimal Capture with it. So, I really cannot confirm Capture problems with 2.0 or 3.0 for that matter. And therefore, do not have any Capture hands on troubleshooting tips to share with you.

But I do offer the following comments.

The Engels and Grisetti in a Snap book does have a Capture troubleshooting section that may help the Premiere Elements 2.0 people with Capture.

On the other hand, Premiere Elements 3.0 appears to be something else. I have been overwhelmed by the negative comments about Capture and Premiere Elements 3.0 over at the Adobe Premiere Elements User to User Forum. Have you seen these Threads from that Forum?

The advice seems to be to use something else instead of 3.0 for Capture. In the case of 3.0, if anyone gets any “Adobe official” advice on getting it to work, I hope that he/she will post the outcome if there is an alternative other than using something else.
