View Full Version : Cropping within the Border?

Hi All,
As I crop initially, the crop border is limited to within the image area. After my initial try, when I grab a corner or edge to resize the crop, I am able to move the crop border(s) outside of the image area. Is there way to keep the crop from going outside the image area? It doesn't make sense (yet) for thi to be a good thing...
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards - Fred

Hi Fred ...
As you have found out once the initial crop area is defined then you can grab the handles and pull the crop area out beyond the image. Its actually done that way deliberately so that you can add extra canvas to your images using the crop tool :)
I'm afraid that there isn't a way to turn it off ...

Best you can do if you want to crop right to the edge is turn on the Grid and Snap to Grid. Although you can still drag outside it will at least snap to the edges if you're close.

I have a question...as I am selecting a background to change, and I go along the edges of the picture (am I asking the same question?), the line won't stay straight to go along the edges. Which tool should I be using actually or should I be changing my edge contrast or frequency?

Hi Norma,
I assume you're talking about using the Magnetic Lasso to select. If this is the case, all you need to do is "alt+click" and the Magnetic Lasso will become the Polygonal Lasso, which selects straight lines. Hold the "alt" key down and you can click as many times and turn as many corners as you want. Release the "alt" key and the next time you click, the Magnetic Lasso will reappear.
I hope that's what you're looking for. I have learned so much in this forum that it feels really good to be able to contribute for a change.
Have fun,

Hi there
You can always use the rectangular marquee tool... it will only select to the edges then use image>crop
