We have a new year add a new Challenge Mike Rodriguez has presented us with a very thorny Challenge., well it is really horny but I don't want to day that in mixed company.

The first images are now being posted while they are few, mainly due to the mess up with my server and lost time, they are still all great.

The Challenge brings in the New Year with an old dinosaur. Nice work on the triceratops this week.
ALEX B: Great recreation of the background in #1. That triceratops seems to grow on me in #2.
ANNE T: I like the idea of dinosaurs wandering through this quite village.
A P: Nice work on the pearls/bubbles.
BEN M: I love the new color scheme.
CAROL W: The matrix and coloration make an interesting composition.
CHARLES Y: Love the thought bubbles.
CHUCK F: Looks like the triceratops didn't realize what he was getting when he said, "Supersize me!"
DONALD M: I like the rolling picture and the scan lines on the old TV.
DS F: The posture is a great match to the setting.
ELLE H: The rain gear (and the sign) is a hoot!
JACK S: Great poster -- I love the font choice.
LINDA J: That's one audacious gull!
MALCOLM D: Interesting work on the coloration.
MARIE S: A lot going on here -- I like the idea of the Earth as a giant exercise ball for dinosaurs.
MARILYN L: Love the texture work on the triceratops and the new setting.
RITA G: Nice work on the new marsh and reflections in #1. Do I detect a Tab Allen influence in #2 -- love the bird.
RED S: Surreal combination of the gorilla face with concrete ruin.
RUSTY: It's the bergamot that gives triceratops that distinctive flavor.
SISSY: Good work on the duplication.
TAB A: Love the play on words for the wine brand.
TOM M: Wow! The glass look I can figure out -- how do you get the random bubble shapes and coloration? Great image!
WARD G: The paint-by-numbers look in #1 is cool. I like the role reversal in #2.
WENDY W: Love the things inside things theme this week. Have to go with the gull in the hollow snout as my favorite.

Bob, I followed a modified version of this (http://homepage.mac.com/corey_barker/real_ice/ice_tut_1.htm) tutorial.
Substituted pin light for overlay on one layer.
Used masks to combine and blend.

Well, I would just like to say that it's been fun to see different takes on an image I submitted!
That dino has been a part of my life for a long time. Back when I was a kid, my mom used to take us to the Pacific Science Center a lot--now that we have kids, we take them. The last time we were there, I thought one of the dinos (there are a few) might make a fun challenge.
Not sure if I'll have a go at my own or not...there are a lot of irons in the fire this week...
But I sure have enjoyed seeing the work you all have done!

Thank you, Bob.
I wish I had just a fraction of Tab's talent. But if you see an influence it must be something subconscious.

Thanks for the comments Bob. The gorilla head has been sitting in my "Open" file for a few months now so it was nice to finally do something with it.
Liked your b+w image. It's almost like a lithograph. Is the background done with brushes, another image or freehand?
Wendy- I really liked your chain image. It's something I would like to do because it's a bit unexpected!

"WARD G: The paint-by-numbers look in #1 is cool. I like the role reversal in #2."
Aren't paint-by-number pictures usually garish with strange color schemes and bright colors--sounds like my image exactly.
Thanks for taking the time to comment this week.

I thank you too Bob for taking the time to make comments and I also admire your image. It does like Steven said look like a lithograph. We all want to know how you did it.
Wendy - all of yours were great especially the chain one.
Some others that struck me were Tom's amazing ice dino (thanks for the link), Terri's dino switch, Don's toy thingy; as always Alex's recreation of whats behind the subject.
I thought Ward's was some dino slut
(paint by numbers make-up?)
They were all swell and a fun photo from Mike.
