Wondering if you'd be willing to kindly share a some tips on what techniques you used to achive this look? I'm still a newbie and wanna learn everything I can from you experts! :)
Or... is there a tut or video you could point me to? Thanks so much! :)

Hi Simone, I clicked on the link you posted. I like the photo also. Looks like Carol used the burn tool. Have you tried emailing her to see how she created effect?

Hi Simone-(and thanks Wendy for pointing this thread out to me)
Out of the camera this photo was a little light, so the first thing after resizing it was to run a levels adjustment and fooled around to get it like I wanted it-then merged the layers.
Now comes the Oh crap what did I do??? part!
Duped the layer and put a little gaussian blur-
Then I duplicated the layer again and set the blend mode to multiply-opacity at 75%
Then I added a levels adjustment layer and painted with black to bring out some of the highlights again on his pants and top of the hat.
At least I think that's what I did...really it was the result of just fooling around-I really should write stuff down, but I never know when I'm going to get something that I love! Tell you one thing though-I have a lot of fun with the multply blend mode-it does some great things to certain photos.
Hope this helps-sorry I couldn't be more specific...:o

Carol,
Great image!:) What must be the gaussian blur is what I thought was some other filter that you applied, like in the painting tut.
I know what you mean by needing to write things down, I often come up with an image I like just by experimenting and can never duplicate the effect. I guess that's the fun of PSE, huh?

Thanks for the kind words-

Carol,
Great image and I love your reply. I often do not know how i do things.
Sometimes things just evolve. Boy ,I need a gps to tell me what I've done.
That will be my next suggestion for the next revised program.

...really it was the result of just fooling around
Isn't this when we usually come up with the greatest results??
Stunning image Carol!! I love everything about it :) :)

Carol, thanks SO much for sharing those tips on "how ya did it"! Wow! :)
That was perfect info for what I was looking for. I'm sorry, I think perhaps my post was unclear, I meant, just tips and *generally* what features had you used.... I hadn't seen such a beautiful effect before. I wasn't expecting step-by-step details; I mean, I "just fool around" alot too and who can remember every single thing they did? :) At least, not me with the ol' aging memory ....
The main take-away I got is that I wanna play around more with layer blend modes, mutliply and opacity. Been doing some of that but need to do more. And I'm going to take the Layers class. I tinkered last night and using mutliply turned out sooooo cool.....Maybe if I come up with something I like I'll share it...
And THANKS once again for taking the time, you and this place are so great for us greenies! :D

Thanks everyone-you guys are makin' me feel so good!
Simone-definitely take that class-even at the beginning, which was a lot of stuff I already knew there were a few "oh yeah..." moments, stuff I hadn't done in a while and had forgotten about-there's that memory stuff again! I have really found that going away for a while, like when I had my surgery, you get out of practice and have to get back into the swing of things.

Thanks Carol. I love the photo. I will have to play with the multiply blend tool, sounds like fun.
