View Full Version : Mac users and PSE 4. Dumb question...

Is, as I suspect, the Organizer something that we don't have on the OSX version of PSE 4?
What is "Tagging"? Is that only for Windows?
From all the trouble I read about people using the Organizer, I'm hoping it is something we don't have.
The mystified Berengaria

You're correct, we don't have the Organizer as Mac users. But we do have iPhoto and the Bridge.
Someone will correct me if I say this wrong, but my understanding of tags is similar to iPhoto's keywords. In order to find photos quickly, you give them a tag, or keyword, that can then be searched for. For example, a photo of a zebra taken in Africa might have the keywords: zebra, animal, Africa. If you were to search for any of those terms, that particular photo would show up.
I'm not as familiar with the Bridge, so I'll leave that one to the experts. :)

You are right, there's no organizer for Mac-who needs it with iPhoto?:D:D
If I'm not mistaken, tagging is part of the whole organizer shmear-
To be fair-there are many that love the organizer-I am personally really happy using iPhoto as my organizer and I know that Wendy uses it in conjunction with something called iPhotoBuddy to further enhance her organization of photo libraries.

Hi ...
iPhoto is a little more forgiving that the Organiser and it doesn't have the same problems :
... and iPhotoBuddy lets you manage multiple libraries :)
It is free but he asks for a donation ... its a great little program ...

Thanks folks for your help. I too am very happy with iPhoto. I really only have a few hundred pictures and I never could really get the knack of Bridge so I discarded it to help my dwindling memory problem.
While we're on the subject, (Mac and PSE 4) it does not have a Channel Mixer or a Curves, does it? What else am I missing?
As soon as the iBook starts shipping with the upcoming new system sometime in the spring, I hope, I'll be getting one. I can hardly wait. My poor iBook is very old and very slow. I love it but it will be fun to get up to speed.

Hi ...
PSE4 (Mac & Windows) didn't have Curves or the Channel Mixer and Grant's tools for those doesn't work in it either. So PSE3 is the one I prefer ... :)
PSE4 ... did add much for the Mac as most of the changes were in the organiser and losing the ability to use Curves & Channel Mixer was a downside to it :(

I'm curious Wendy, why do you always mention iPhotoBuddy when you speak of iPhoto, even when the o.p. doesn't request information on managing multiple libraries, or when library management isn't even mentioned ?
iPhoto is quite capable of managing a great number of pictures, and you if you desperately need multiple libraries (something most users of iPhoto don't), you can simply use iPhoto itself to do so. Press and hold the option key when you start iPhoto, you'll be asked to either open your current library or create a new one, at its place on your hard drive.

Hi Ray ...
Yes I know that you can create libraries that way but they are awful to manage ... switching back and forth just isn't easy at all, I used to do it before I found iPhotoBuddy.
Only reason I commented it this time is because Carol mentioned that I used it to enhance my organization of photo libraries. ... but I do tend to mention it to folks who are new to iPhoto simply so that they can check it out and decide if they want to use mulitple libraries or not.
Lots of us do like multiple libraries .. and I certainly think that they have major advantages. ... but as with many things what suits one doesn't suit another :)
