I created a printer profile using Monaco EZcolor for a specific paper and printer and gave it a descriptive name containing the printer model number and the paper's name. However, when I open the print dialog box (PSE 5) to select that profile it is not listed by the name that I gave it. The name has been changed to a generic name made up of the printer's brand name (Epson) followed by, "printer profile.icm".

Any ideas on what is causing this name change? Is there a way to prevent it? I don't know what program is causing the problem. It could be PSE, the printer, Windows XP, or even EZcolor. Since the name that I gave the profile is still listed within the Windows color profiles folder, I'm guessing this is a problem with PSE.

I think Elements picks them up from the WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color folder - is that where the ones you created are?

Yes, and the profile has the name I gave it. Something appears to be happening when PSE picks up the profile list from Windows. It could also have something to do with the printer driver. I have sent a request to Epson tech support for help.

Just in case someone someday may have a similar problem the following is what I discovered after considerable experimenting.

First- my initial observation that PSE (or some other program) was changing the name of my paper/printer profile was incorrect. What I thought was a different genric name turned out to be the name the profiling program (EZcolor) assigned to the profile I created. At this point I don't know how this occured. This was my first attempt at creating a custom profile. I probably activated some option I shouldn't have. This lead to the discovery of a very odd Windows operating condition. If you change the name of the profile within the Windows Explorer, the original name of the profile does NOT change. The original name remains in the operating system and continues to show up in the PSE Print Space! The new name shows up only in the Windows Explorer. Furthermore, I discovered that the PSE Print Space list does not automatically update if you make changes to the profiles lists in Windows (i.e., add or subtract a profile). I was able to get the Print Space list to update by the following: Edit > Color Settings>No color Mgmt.>OK. Then again Edit>Color Settings>Full Color Mgmt.>OK.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure this will catch some people unawares.

Struggling with the same problem now PSE5. By Full Color Mgmt do you mean "Allow Me to Choose"?
I don't have a "Full Color Mgmt." option.

I didn't know there was a difference between PSE 3 & 5. I looked at both and discovered that the explanation for "Full Color Mgmt". in PSE 3 appears to be the same as the explanation for "Optimize for printing" in PSE 5 (i.e., optimize for printing, allow choice of sRGB or Adobe RGB.) Give Optimize selection a try.
