Gallery Works Great.
I have'nt had any problems getting in or out and in viewing all the prints.
I resize using Mike's suggestions re: image size and the save everything in a folder named PE3Gallery; which I will update from time to time.
I have had difficulty getting logged on to Forum so changed my username slightly and e mail addr.
One final comment after viewing the posted images

And Jodi! I adore the one of the little girl -- I assume your daughter? That is wonderful. I love how you did the artistic effect on all but her face. And the frame/edge is so great. I want to try something similar.

Wendy have you ever thought of creating tutorials of your own for you images. You are very creative and have some fantastic ideas. I liked the image of the face with the light cloth stretching over it and the strawberry dress... My favorite fruit.
Every picture I saw in the Gallery was a work of art!!!

Jodi, the picture (both the photo and the ps-ing) of the gal with dandylion is gorgeous. Any chance for a tutorial on THAT?
Would be handy for my application portfolio if I can snag the neighbor girl to pose for me. :)
(man, I have a lot to learn in 2 months.....)

Jim, Yes ? You call ? :o
Kerri, it's really quite simple. All I did was desaturate her with an adustment layer but I painted the eyes back in a bit. I can't recall if I used levels to lighten the image or whether I lightened it from the same hue/sat adjustment layer...but anyways, I lightened it. Then I used a feathered rectangular marquee around the inner edge and applied crossed hatch and angled strokes . Then with another feathered marquee closer around the inside I applied a gaussian blur. My feathers are generally pretty high. Then just duplicate the image and transform the top image so that it's smaller, add a drop shadow and that's it. I think I probably lighted the bottom one more afterwards. I don't take notes but this is what I remember since I just did it a couple of weeks ago.
Oh wait, looking at it now I do remember making a large stroke on a new layer>lite>center, apply gaussian blur...for that slight outer lighter edge.

All I can say about the Gallery is WOW .... DOUBLE WOW!!!!!!!
What an incredible source of inspiration !
Wendy ..... I second Brice's comments.
Jodi ..... I second Wendy's comments. Glad Kerri asked about "how did you do that" ...... you should develop tutorials also .... just beautiful.

Brice & Kathy,
Why thank you for the kind comments :) ... I have to admit I was slightly reluctant to post any images as I don't use straight photos very much.
Any time you want to know about specific images just ask and I'll try to remember what I did :)

and applied crossed hatch and angled strokes .
Jodi, any chance you could explain that to me in more detail, speaking slowly.
:)
I love the look of her ponytail holder. It and the dandylion have such a handpainted look to them......
(any time you or Wendy starts with "it's really quite simple" I should know better than attempting it.)

Hi Kerry...it's in the filter menu under ' brush strokes' I used both crosshatch and angled strokes...I have no clue of the settings...I just eyeballed it in the preview screen. Keep in mind that you'll be applying a gaussian blur afterwards to soften the strokes.
PS, use a crash dummy layer...duplicate the layer first and then play. I always make crash dummy duplicate layers...sometimes I have too many of them. Anyways, they are trashable as well as keepable...depending on the outcome of the accident ;)

Just wanted to second Jim's comments.... I got some help from
Wendy yesterday (to get the correct size) and since then everything is working great.
I just started taking Photo's in Jan of this year and now to learn
Elements... After seeing the Gallery I now realize I have a ways to go,
but can't think of a better journey....
Thanks Wendy (your method works really well)

I have a complaint!! Spent over an hour looking at the gallery. (darn near burnt my spagettit sauce when I finally put it on to cook after listening to the kids whining they were hungry) The gallery 'seemed' like a good idea when it was first mentioned but here I sit once again glued to my computer and getting nothing else done. :)
Seriously there is some amazing work on the gallery. I think though if I had to pick my favourites I do like seeing the ones that have had some creative work done to them. It's so inspiring to see and get ideas from. Wendy, you say you aren't a photographer and your work is pieced together but it's fabulous and gives the rest of us some terrific ideas. Jodi, once again totally inspiring ideas. Your creativity takes a regular snap shot of any subject and turns it into a work of art.
I enjoyed looking at everyone's gallery and I see that I have a long way to go. The bulk of my photos of our of our Golden Retriever since he doesn't mind having his picture taken, but I must start doing other things.
If I live to be 100, I will never accomplish what I desire. I always feel like I'm way behind. Now since kid and dog are pestering, I guess I will have to actually leave the house and computer and take them swimming!

Can I come too ? It's quite a muggy summer thus far (not complaining). A good swim would do me justice !
Thanks so much for your wonderful compliments,,,I know exactly how you feel about trying to get things done as I tend to have many projects going at once...but that's OK, I don't know any other way of doing things. So I make notes as to not forget what I'm doing...pathetic eh ? Enjoy every minute of whatever you are doing...even if it's yelling at the husband
Pauline
July 19th, 2005, 07:19 PM
 Don't have to worry about yelling at the husband. He is staying in the city today. He starts out by saying....."I guess you have lots to keep you busy". (like he ever entertains me  ) Then it leads into, "think I'll have a couple of beers with the boys and grab a couch since I have to be back down town tomorrow." One thing he never has to worry about is me be bored or pining for him. When he retires he'd better find himself a good hobby (besides watching tv) to keep him occupied because I have plenty to do.
On another note, I was working on my Painter program today to design a "real" painting I have to do for a memory box. I loved the ability to rearrange everything and get the design the way I want it. I had to trace a bride and groom and that was sooooooo much easier than the old way I used to do it. Did it all in painter with the tablet. Any changes the customer wants made will be a piece of cake to do just by opening up the file. So while there is so much to learn, it has also made doing some stuff a lot easier. I should probably work out all my colours on there too now that I think of it. That will be tomorrow's job.
I'm not ignoring my son......honest.....he took off on his bike to find his friend to take him swimming too. Apparently just him and the dog swimming isn't good enough.

I know I just commented on Wendy's work, but I've busted her chops so many other times, I felt I needed to throw her a compliment to try and make amends.
There are so many fantastic works of art in here! The best thing is we'll be exposed to so many fantastic ideas for creating new images. My challenge is the imagination to create original works. I'm one of those limited talent dudes that needs to copy, copy, copy - Shamelessly!
Wendy, I referred to the predominately turqoise image of the face. I believe it's the second image in your gallery. The image has clear impressions of nose and mouth, but almost no eyes. It almost looks like she has a sheer clothe over her face....

Brice,
The original image is a piece of sculpture from Reims Cathedral ... I used Filer>Stylize>Extrude (Pyramid ... maximum depth) on a copy of the image.
Then overlaid part of the copy over the original ... used a mask to let the face show through. It looks like I did that several time at different angles and enhanced the colours. Its not at all my usual style ...
Here is the original image:

Wendy, I must say, I prefer "yours" to the original!
Brice don't feel bad about copying.........your in good company....I'm the same way. It's so hard to think of ideas but I am pretty good at copying. I think it all comes with time and challenging yourself. I am started to get better. It's just so easy to copy and a lot harder to do your own. I realize it will get easier with time.

Pauline,
I've managed to get one pic into the Gallery. It's a slow start but I need to lower my expectations a little. I have to slow down, read things over more carefully and take more breaks.
Everyones Gallery is impressive and an inspitation. I can't say anything else but "Wow!'. :D

Well I learned a lesson last night when I was up until 1:30 (playing with PS) and then read for another 20 minutes to relax. I am tired today and didn't accomplish anything!! Just been dragging my butt around. So no more late nights or I end up wasting part of a day. At least it was cooler with no humidity today so I did relax outside with a book.
Now I'm reading my Corel Painter newsletter. The problem with having 2 new programs is sometimes I confuse them. There are things that painter can do and ps can't and vice versa.......or maybe they both can but I haven't found the right 'way/tool'.
I brought some of my photos (creative ones) into the old age home where I take my dog weekly and the residents were pretty impressed.
They are much easier to fool with the trick pictures because they have no clue about photo retouching and were shocked with the picture of my kids painting the corvette.

"They are much easier to fool with the trick pictures because they have no clue about photo retouching and were shocked with the picture of my kids painting the corvette"...too funny ! I 'used' to be able top fool people...now they know better <sigh>...those were the good 'ol days. Had alot of fun with that...ghosts, UFO's etc... So, now if I ever did truly capture something totally off the wall they would not believe me. Oh well.
yup, the humidity lifted today and I sat at the playground while the kids played. Had my binder at hand filled with Elements newsletters. I had some catching up to do. So that's done. ...t'il the next. Always nice to read from those...I picture Dave and Matt sitting there reading to me ... lol

It's cooler here today too. Managed to size and place 5 more in the Gallery. Had a masage therapy session this morning and working on pics this afternoon is relaxing.
Pauline...I know what you mean. I'm learning painter and PSE3 at the same time also. But I really have to challenge myself sometimes. I've been using a computer since January, 3 months later it was PSE3. I must be crazy.

Thank you Jan. That would be wonderful!
Jodi, loved your comment about Matt and Dave reading to you. You really are imaginative aren't you.
Well regardless of who believes my 'created' pictures, the real fun for me is to get them to actually look as real as possible. (if that's the effect I'm looking for)
Now it's back outside with a tea and a couple of Painter books (I need to break from PS once in a while  ) It's actually nice enough to sit out and promises not to be for the rest of the week, so I had better take advantage of it!!

Pauline, we must be neighbours. It was a fairly nice day today ...still hot but not nearly as muggy as it's been...but tomorrow we are back up to 90 and mugville and the same for friday but HEY...saturday is only suppose to be 79 !!! I'll believe that when i feel it !

Jodi seems like we are having similar weather, but we sure don't have that report for Saturday. Hot/humid and no sign of anything else. I for one am sick of it and really enjoyed getting out today. I was to brain dead for anything else anyway. Guess I'll go to bed early tonight.
I should really go onto painter and plan out my colour scheme for this painting I have to do. Could be dangerous though............next thing I know it's past bedtime and I have my second wind!

I know it's a pain to live in muggy areas, but consider this:
You get TERRIFIC SUNSETS!
We are almost never muggy here in the Central California coast, but today a tropical weather pattern descended upon us, making everyone cranky, sticky and annoying.
Until just after dinner, when we looked up at the sky, looked at each other, grabbed the cameras and ran to catch the last light. We almost NEVER get skies like the one we had tonight. ;-)

Karoli, who sees the sunsets? We're too busy sitting in the airconditioning! :x Or a lot of times in my case, it's when it's cool enough to walk the dog. I really should get out there and get some though as we live close to the lake and there are some beautiful ones. Usually by the time I get back home it's too late. No point in suggesting I take the dog with me as he would be in the water and takes far to long to dry at night!
The heat and humidity has lasted far to long. I don't find it enjoyable one bit and would rather cooler temps and the windows open. I did manage to sit outside and read last night as it did cool down somewhat. The humidity just sucks the life out of me.

Pauline, I insist you post the picture of your kids painting your Corvette posted to the gallery! Don't make me send Wendy, Kerri, Jodi, Eva, Jan, Jim, Linda, Kathy, George, and Karoli to your house to enforce my demands!!! I'll do it if I have to.
By the way I just went through the entire gallery, picture by picture and the effects and images continue to amaze me and depress me. I have so much to learn. I hope to be able to half as much as all of you have accomplished. Well done!

Pauline, I expect a check in the amount of $1200. I was drinking water when I clicked the link to your gallery and did a "spit take" when I saw the picture. My computer is ruined - NOT.
Hillarious. It was well done. If you just glance at the picture you can't really tell they weren't even there.
Reminds me of when my little brother and I found a gallon of white paint and painted my new neighbors car port wall while his house was being built. The problem was the wall had just been stained with a nice walnut finish and the contractor was waiting for it to dry so he could apply some kind of "protective seal." He didn't appreciate random brush strokes from an 8 and 5 year old. My dad had to pay $200 to have the wall redone. That was twice his mortgage payment at the time. He wasn't happy.

 I can't be responsible for you drinking around your computer Brice! After all you were forwarned and hasn't anyone told you no drink or food when on the computer??? You take your chances.
I loved doing that photo. It was a lot of fun. If I have to pick a comment about something I don't like, it's the way the bucket looks. The bucket was in the real picture, but the paint on it doesn't appear realistic. I guess I could muck around and try and get some shadows and highlights etc., but well............I've moved on now!!
We had the same car last weekend and I wanted to stage it like it was in a crash with my 16 year old who just got her driver's permit for beginners standing there looking shocked. Didn't have time though..............but the spark was there.
It's funny, I am an artist and have murals on some of my walls but as a kid I never even considered colouring or painting on walls! My kids on the other hand.............
