View Full Version : Advice with Badly Angled Photo

I was forced by this building's location to take the photo from a very bad angle so it's leaning backward. Is there any way to "pull" the building up/forward where it belongs? Yes, it's a strange picture but I'd like to do something or other with it if possible. (I'll bet Red Sky would like this one - it's from a cemetary! :D )
I've been playing with Transform>Perspective to no avail, but I'm not very good with this tool to begin with.
Suggestions or is it garbage bin material?
Thanks...

Actually, I like it when it's not so "flat". It gives your picture some dimension.
But then again, I'm a weird one who will intentionally crop my photos at an angle for an arty look ;)
I hope someone has the step-by-step fix for you.

Tee,
Thank you for that great thought - one I never even considered. I'm not too artsy obviously, so I really appreciate it!

Pat,
I don't know what all you want to do with the picture, but... Maybe rotate the image using the Custom amount to make the bottom of the doors horizontal. Then, I would crop it so that it is "square" again. I agree with Tee that the "upward slope" adds to the beauty of the picture and I wouldn't change that.
Here's what it looks like after a little touch up for lighting, unsharp mask, etc. and the "straightening" I spoke of above...

Pat,
You said you were using Transform>Perspective. I don't know what version of PSE you are using. Here is something from PSE5 Filter>Correct Camera Distortion

You could then either crop the image or use the "edge extension slider" down at he bottom and let Elements make up pixels to fill in.

PS - I didn't do a very good of sizing this, sorry. You need to scroll right to see the settings if you open up the pixentral file.

It's definitely not garbage bin material. I agree with Tee and also like the angle!:) Perhaps a frame of some sort might make it more pleasing to you, you have a lot of nice frames in your gallery.
I don't think I've commented on this, it's a beautiful image!

Wow, what a wonderful lot of advice! I knew you guys would come through for me. Thanks so much.
Rusty, the distortion filter is exactly the type of thing I was looking for. I'm using PSE3 which doesn't have it that I can see, but as luck would have it I have 5 sitting on a shelf. I guess this is the prod I needed to finally install it; I've been dragging my feet because it lacks the undo button and the file browser which I'm convinced I can't live without. :) Thanks so much. I knew I'd have to straighten it and lose some of the limited width of the photo so that filter sounds ideal. I could fill it in with the clone tool as well I suppose.
Loved seeing what everyone did with it - now I really don't know what I'll do with the image but all your suggestions are excellent. Thanks for the time spent on actually showing me your results. I'm going to enjoy playing with it even more now having seen your ideas.
Thanks again everyone!

Tom,
Just looking at your tall and thin again which isn't half bad BTW, (who would know it should be fatter!) - you sure are good with the transform tools, I find them very difficult.
