I went to Brighton SeaLife Centre today. It was quite a challenge as, apart from the fact that the targets were moving, I didn't use flash with my P & S camera as it would reflect on the glass and could also disturb the fish etc. but it was VERY dark. Auto SmartFix produced some weird results, so I've played with Levels a bit just to bring out the creatures.

I've put together this montage, although I realise that it is not to scale. I just couldn't resist keeping that cute seahorse (about 15 cm) at the size shown. Did have to reduce the octopus tentacles. He must have been about 50 cm and the jellyfish was nearly as big. The rays came in various sizes from tiny ones to large ones.

Good job, looks like you had fun seeing all the little creatures.

Ann,

I have stayed away from the aquatic building at our zoo for the exact reasons you cited. After seeing what you were able to do in that light, I'm now going to make sure to go in there on my next visit.

If your camera can have one fitted, a rubber lens hood is very useful for shooting through glass - if you press it right up against the glass it will stop any reflections from your flash.

Ann, great picture. I have a love of the ocean and sealife and I go scuba diving every chance I get. We have a new aquarium in Atlanta but I've never taken pictures there because of the glare. Maybe next time I'll try it. Thanks for sharing.
