Hello All,

When I first started I bought elements 3 and have been using 3 and learning with 3 ever since. I love all the tutorials in the subscriber area, and have been teaching my self from books, and the tutorials on this web site. For Christmas I received elements 5 (which I am really excited about, but I am scared/nervous). I have not yet intstalled it, I am waiting for the book (scott kelby) I ordered online.

What I am scared/nervous about is.... Will I be able to use all the same things that I was using for V3, or am I gonna have to re learn everything all over again, and will the tutorials in the subscriber area work in 5.

I dont have a problem learning new things, but is everything different, and the stuff that I already learned is it going to be null and void?

What are the different options that 5 has that the older versions do not have?

Any input would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you, and sorry for if I sound a little weird. I dont know why I am so afraid. :)

Alicia.... you are going to love it. :D

Everything will be the same but you will have more stuff.
Open that box and get with it. Remember to turn off any virus software that you have before doing your install.
If you have any extra styles or plug-ins you will need to move those before you uninstall 3. But for the time being put that puppy on. :D

GO for IT! :D All the functions are the same and some are made even simpler.

I just wanted to say Thank you so much. I am still a little nervous but I think I will be very happy AND it will be very fun. I just wanted to thank you both for your input, and ENCOURAGEMENT. :)

I really need to update my gallery too. Put the new stuff in the gallery instead of all the old stuff that I was doing when I was just learning.

Again, thank you. Everyone is always so helpful..

You will definitely love version 5! I was even farther back than you, I was still using Adobe PhotoDeluxe v.3 when I switched to Photoshop Elements V.4, and only used that for 5 months before I upgraded to V.5. The switch is pretty easy, even from the old old software (PhotoDeluxe) there were enough similarities between them to make the transition easy. You shouldn't have any problems going from V 3 to V 5 of Elements, and if you do, this is the place to come to for help! Have fun!! :D

you'll love it!!!! Take the plunge! If you have a question or problem, post it as soon as you have it. Someone will have an answer for you, but I don't think you will have a problem!

Enjoy V5!

NOOOOoooo.....!!!! DON'T DO IT!!!

There is no UNDO button, so instead of having FOUR ways to undo something, PSE5 only has THREE!!!
This severely cripples the whole thing! (at least, it does in some viewpoints...)

Of course, the above is all emphatically tongue-in-cheek.

There will probably be a few interface changes that will take a bit of time for you to re-train yourself, but the net is all positive.

Enjoy!! :D

Alicia,
Give it a go! I went from PSE3 to PSE5 and never looked back.
Things with PSE5 aren't only different-they're better.

The only oopsies I've seen in moving from V3 to V5
There is no Browser in V5 (removed in V4).
Web-based galleries are Flash-based instead of HTML-based. If you have an older one, you can not edit it in V5.

For most users, these are very minor points. Otherwise, I think you'll enjoy your V5 very much.

If you have not considered this, you can have both on your machine if you want a "fallback" program until you get comfortable with V5. Personally, I find it better to jump in head first (okay, I've hit a few stones on the bottom doing this); otherwise, I'm always going back to the old, comfortable version instead of learning the new one.

you can have both on your machine

My computers are full of earlier versions of PS software; I'm afraid I'm one of those cluttered people described in the latest edition of AARP magazine (for those of you of a certain age...) I just can't bear to part with an old friend...

Go for it! I was nervous at first too to go directly from 3 to 5 and now I am loving 5 !!!!! I haven't even discovered a lot of the new features and I still am so glad I upgraded. The best thing I did was get Graffi's Add- O- Matic to install actions and such. It's a breeze to transfer everything. I did keep PSE3 on my computer just in case, but realized after a few weeks that I really didn't need it for anything and deleted it. Have fun.....
