At least that is how it was referred to at the Ice sculptures my daughter and I saw yesterday. They used 2 milliion pounds of ice. and the sculpters are from China.
First of all I appreciate so much the advice given to me on care of a camera in cold temperatures. I applied it all, and everything was great. I did take my smaller camera, just in case I goofed somethng up.
Well it was definitely cold as I guess 9 degrees is. I wore jeans, sweatshirt, heaviest leather coat, gloves and the parka they provided.
My hands hurt from the cold, the rest of me was just cold. It was hard to take pictures with clumsy fingers, but I did the best I could.
Here are a couple from yesterday
this one is photomerged of the Nativity

I'm hoping to put together a montage of the photos for my gallery.

Aren't those ice sculptures something!
We have a similar thing in Minnesota - its the annual winter carnival in St. Paul, MN. They have ice sculptures from around the area and world come and actually do the ice out in the open (usually cold enough here for them to do it outside) at Rice Park in downtown St. Paul. If you go at night - the lights really create a shimmer on the carved ice. They have also had the ice slides - great fun.

We did have fun! But I was COLD~esp, my hands!!!
I am so grateful to support here,as I was the only one I saw protecting their camera correctly. Most had disposable. However, one lad (college age) had a good looking Nikon w/ the extra big flash on top...kept running in and out of cold/warm and gesturing to his group. I couldn't understand the language he was using but he seemed upset.
Here is me bundled, however to vain to put the hat on.

Michelle, I liked the pictures! I never even realized that there was a place like that in Orlando or I would have thought of going. But, on the other hand, it looks really cold!!! You both looked like you were having a great time though. I'm looking forward to your montage.

Michelle, thanks for the address. I'll have to write it down and either go now or wait til next year. And make sure I have some extra warm toasty clothes too! It must be a pretty big place from the picture of your daughter on the slide. Does it take all day to get thru?

I'm glad your camera made it safely through. Aren't we lucky we have this forum to ask questions. Otherwise, who knows what we'd be doing.:D

Hey Michelle the ice sculptures are beautiful. My son and his wife are staying a couple nights in Orlando on their way to a cruise ship, I will send him the directions you gave, he would love it. Who would have guessed you would freeze in FL, I bet not many people had big coats to keep warm. Can't wait to see your montage.

Here is a link to info on it http://www.wdwinfo.com/Photos/ICE-gaylord/index.htm
It took us less than 1 hour to go thru. Now, I do know we COULD have stayed there much longer, but ..it was COLD!! Have I ever mentioned I've lived here since 1960??? And I was young , then.

I would have been willing to pay more $$$ to get all the people out of my way with the camera, so I could have totally photogrpahed what I wanted to.
When Megan and I got there, we waited in line behind 1 person for tickets. After touring, shopping, defrosting, shopping, eating and shopping...the line FOR TICKETS was 3 hours long. (NOT WORTH THAT FOR ME)
I do believe it stays open mid-Nov ~Jan 2
If you can, go, it is gorgeous.

There is a fantastic web site to see ice sculptures in China. They are unbelievable. Go to www.rtoddking.com Click on his China trip. There is actually snow sculpture as well as ice sculpture at two different locals. I highly recomend that you try it. BillandCat:)

Bill, I looked and clicked where I could and saw a lot of great photography. However, I sure enough missed the ice. What title should I have looked for and clicked on.
I am challenged , most definitely.

From what you're saying Michelle, it might be too cold for me! I don't think I have winter outerwear anymore that would keep me warm enough:eek:

To find the pics I mentioned---Go to rttoddking.com Onthe left side, click on China photos 2005 then Harbin, Sanya & Bejing 2005. I cann't remember if there are some for 2006 so I'll have to check again. When I first heard of the site and saw it, I passed it on to my friends and here I am, doing it again a year later. If I knew how to send a screen shot (which I just learned how to make) I'd send you one. BillandCat:)
