Hi all, To share something... I added a new one today, a vintage photo of my great-grandparents in 1950 with a great old taxi cab. With them is their son Alvin who drove the cab. The photo was in pretty bad shape (no clue who took it, I found it in a box) but it cleaned up pretty well. The text at the bottom doesn't show up in the pixcentral thumb.

I don't know.. there's just something about these vintage photos that gets me. And see the little tyke sitting on the front porch in the background .. it's like a still-life in a different age! I am so glad we have the ability to restore/preserve these old ones for the ages... Just to share... :)

Simone,

Great image, the background really enhances the photograph. If you hadn't said the original was in bad shape, I would have thought it was in perfect condition!

Your gallery has some wonderful images in it!:)

Great rework on the photograph. I sure can't tell that it was in bad shape. I've just got to dig down into my box of old photographs and scan some in. This is great.

Oh my gosh, I see the Image of the Week thing! Well, I'm VERY flattered to be included in such company, is all I can say! :)

Kim, Sissy -about not being able to tell the photo was in bad shape --Thanks much and LOL! Just remembering the hours of tedium in front of TV on this one with the clone stamp and healing brush (and an achy arm!) , getting rid of mountains of dust and scratches. And it was really faded too.... PSE can work restoration miracles! Sissy - do get out your heritage boxes, there are real finds in them! :)

Simone.............

What a great photo. You should post the before and after image, you have done a spectacular job on it, I can't tell that it has been restored. I LOVE the old photos.

Hi Robyn, Again, congrats on the Image of the Week. As I mentioned in the other thread, awesome, I'm humbled! I'll try to find the original scan of this one.

You mentioned you love the old photos -- me too. I've a little gallery over at digishoptalk with some digiscrap pages from a 37-page heritage album I did for my mom's 86th Christmas. Photos dating from the 20's showing depression-era farms, clothing, cars, etc. The scanning/restoring is tedious but it's worth it ...
Just to share if ya like the vintage stuff...

LOL ...After focusing on heritage stuff to finish that big project, however, I must admit I wanna take NEW pics now! :)

Simone.........

I've been checking out your gallery and it is FANTASTIC....and I mean that sincerely. Your heritage stuff is soooo good! Aren't you lucky to have all those wonderful, wonderful photos of such a different era. The way you have put them all together, you certainly have NO need to feel humbled looking at my offerings. Where did you get the Nostalgic kit that you have used in some of them. Thirty seven pages......now that is a labour of love, and that love for your family certainly shows through in your work. Your mother at 86 must have been so delighted with this album. I still have my mum who is nearly 92 and I do have some early photos of her, so you have inspired me to get off my backside and do something with them. Sadly though, she would not be able to see anything that I might do, as she is very nearly blind.

Robyn, Glad ya liked the heritage scrap stuff, and appreciate the comments. Do try to get out your old photo stuff - it's an effort but once you get into it it's worth it. I'm sorry about your mom not being able to see it, but your other family members would love the sentiments and preserved memories of any pages you'd do. :)

The kit "Nostalgic" is by digi designer Tracey Lee, available over at TheDigiChicks scrap supply site. They have good stuff, papers, elements, alphas, etc. http://www.thedigichick.com/

Here is a link taking you directly to the Nostalgic kit

Another kit that I think goes well with heritage stuff, is
Basin St. Blues, by Misty Mareda sold at www.thedigishoppe.com (http://www.thedigishoppe.com). In their "shoppe" area, if you search on "basin" it'll come up. Gorgeous, soft, distressed papers. My new gallery image on this thread (grandparents with the taxi) uses it and also the page in my PET gallery with "Mother" and the B&W photo of her head/shoulders. Just FYI.... :)

Please share any heritage images you do! :)

Robyn, your new one is WONDERFUL! Oh my! :) Actually -- over my first cuppa' java this morning -- I saw it on the main gallery page before looking at this thread, and just went "Wow"!

Great photo choice (the people, apparel, setting, etc.), great colors and layout, perfect font choices, and love the texturing you did to the background paper edges at top and bottom. I just looked at the Vanilla kit over a DSP and I may get it. Gave me some ideas...

Also, what a variety of great stuff you have in your gallery. Your 'fantasy' images had me just staring this morning, wow. I also love 'quiet reflections' and the images with the pink flowers. But please keep doing heritage stuff too, so we can see the great results! :)

You did a wonderful job on restoring this photo. I'm with you - old photos are a priceless treasure and I love to collect them. I have over 150 photos of my ancestors and each one is so wonderful.
