Santa brought me a Wacom Tablet!!! I have already installed it and am playing around with it and I know I'm really gonna love it. However, at present, anyone watching me trying to minipulate this pen woudl think that I've been sipping the vino a bit early this morning. My coordination is not the best!!!!

One problem I'm having is the little buttons on the pen. I thought they were for doubleclick and right clicking, but they don't seem to do anything at all. Sure could use some tips!!

Also, when I log on I have to use my old mouse as the wacom mouse and pen do not work until I'm logged on. Is there a setting I can change for this so that I can retire my old mouse?

Yay for Santa !! :)

You need to change the button behaviour in the control pannel (or where you set this in Windows) :

Thanks Ray and Carole for the quick response.

Ray, I went to the control panel and all my settings are the same as the ones in the example you sent, yet the buttons still don't do anything when pressed.

Carole, I'm second in like for the tablet class!!!!

Ok. . they say if I'm upgrading from a driver older than 4.82, which I am, I must completely uninstall the earlier version.
Tells me to remove the "Pen Tablet driver" , how some ever - - I only find an entry on the add-remove program list for "Tablet" I'm reasonable certain that that is what I want to remove but I'm a little nervous about adding and removing programs so I want to be sure I'm doing it right. What do you think?

It's been 3 years since I last saw a tablet under windows.. sorry to say, I really don't remember this. Have you look under W (Wacom) in the add-uninstall software gizmo?

Yes I did look for Wacom, not there. The only thing there that I think it could be is "Tablet"

I can't in all honesty tell you to proceed with tablet because I am unsure of what this is. Maybe some windows user should step in at this time.

Ok, Thanks for all your help Ray. As I said I'm fairly certain that that is what I need to remove, but I think I'll just check back in a little while to see if a windows user has any ideas.

Hi Scrappy Girl
I just updated my driver. I also use Windows XP. Under add and remove in control panel, remove the one called Tablet. When it is removing it will say pen tablet driver. Shut down after it is removed and restart. Then make sure you disable your virus scan and internet security before installing the new driver. After it is complete don't forget to turn on your virus scan etc..
So far, new driver works fine.

Yay! A windows user showed up :)

And another Windows user. Jancy is absolutely right. The clue is that when you click on Tablet in the add/remove program list some extra info comes up inclusing "click here for support info". Click and it does indeed reveal that it's Wacom.

Carol, I'm glad I saw this thread because I just got a Wacom for Xmas. I hope my buttons work but, if not, least I'll know what to do now.

Ray,

How often do we need to upgrade the Wacom driver? Do we need to check the site regularly and upgrade as new drivers become available?

Karen :)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)

Seriously, I don't chase after new drivers other than if something stop working, behaves erratically or I hear about a new feature on some news website. Wacom constantly update their driver, but most of the times, it fixes something of newer tablets. My Graphire3 has been working fine for a long time, so I didn't update the drivers recently.

Oh your right Colleen, I did contribute slightly to the "golden text" thread didn't I?? And as I recall you did quite well there yourself!

I also do not hunt down drivers but I did on the tablet, Why? I don't know -but I have noticed since I did, It seems that the mouse that came with the tablet works better with the newest driver. I actually don't love the one that came with my tablet, I still use my intellimouse. But I may give the wacom mouse a try for the next few days to see if I may end up liking it.

Does anyone here ever change and use the other pen tips that came with their intuous 3 pen? If so what do you use them for?

Thanks
Jancy

I updated my driver and it actually broke the thing - sort of. It turned out the driver had a problem and once it was installed nothing worked. I had to uninstall it, reinstall my old one and wait for the corrected driver which showed up a couple of days later. Ray's right - if it ain't broke - don't fix it.:D

THANK YOU . . THANK YOU . . THANK YOU. .
to Jancey and every one else for all the help. I just love this place, everyone is sooooo nice and willing to help those of us who aren't as knowledgable!!! Now I just have one more question. I use Mcafee virus protection, do I simply close the program to turn it off. That's what I did when I installed my tablet software, and everything seems to have worked out fine.

Jancy
December 27th, 2006, 09:10 AM
Yes Scrappy you had to have right clicked on the Mcafee icon on the system tray (bottom right corner) click on disable also do the same if you have security. Install program or driver. Then you can turn it back on. Usually when you reboot it will turn on again. Any time you install a program it is best to disable your VirusScan and Security before installing.
Have fun with your Tablet!!!

Thanks again Jancy, I'm at work until noon today, so it'll have to wait till I get home. Then I have a family christmas party tonight, so that'll not leave me much time to PLAY!!! Oh well, I'm off now until the new year so I guess I should quit complaining, huh?
