Hello, I'm new and I have alot of questions about this program. It is my first Photoshop program and I got the 5.0 version. and I must say, I am clueless on how to do anything other than crop and erase! normal stuff! My main thing that is annoying me is when I crop and make the picture bigger, how do I fix the pixels? Because it gets all blurry then? and my main thing for getting this program was to remove unwanted objects...but I don't know how to do that either! HELP!

Hi Nic and welcome!

To remove objects, you use the clone tool (it's a rubber stamp like icon). You basically clone a good source onto the object to remove. You can also change the mode of the clone tool (top, option bar, below the menu bar) to colour, or darken or lighten to simply change the colour of the destination. Sometimes, it's the ideal way to remove pimple or a birth mark, for example.

As for the pixels, if you're trying to crop an image and then make it bigger (enlarge) you're going to see pixels at some point because Photoshop Elements (PSE in short) has to create the missing pixels.

So, after cropping, make sure you choose View / Actual pixels (menu) just to make sure the pixels you see aren't the result of viewing the image at a too large size. Then if you need to resize, make it by step of 10%. Click on Image / Resize / Image Size, put a checkmark on Resample, then if you read something like 800 x 600 pixels (in the pixels dimensions, at the top), make it 900 (the other number will adjust itself automaticaly, if Constrain Proportion is checked). Repeat as needed.

Hope this helps !

The resizing thing helped. But I am still confused on the clone tool. I tried it but it brings up another object! like I wanted to remove a telephone pole in a picture I took of my boyfriend and it starts to make two pictures of my boyfriend!

Hi, and welcome to the forum! When I started using PSE5 a few months ago I bought a couple of books to help me get started, but the BEST help I've gotten is the combination of the helpful members of this forum and a subscription to the newsletter, which also gives you access to hundreds of videos and tutorials on this site. The videos alone are worth the price, in my opinion. I just checked and there is a video showing how to use the clone tool. I know I avoided a LOT of frustration by becoming a subscriber!

Have a look at this movie I made for you :

http://homepage.mac.com/carbmac/captures/PhotoshopElements215.mov

You simply have to cut and paste this link into your browser.
(I have a Mac but the tools are the same).

To create sampling point, press and hold the Alt key then click on a good area. Next, move the cursor over the area to be cloned (target) then press the mouse (no Alt key this time).

Hope this helps !

I started out taking the Layers course (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/training_courses/layers.html). That gives you a great jumpstart. If you don't feel you can afford it, there is a quick introduction here: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/tutorials/index.php
and some extra videos here:
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/adobereg/pse5/?sdid=IIFW&uid=7ff1d6e280d9f13276b15ed9a47fa418 which you may only be able to get to if you register your program.
There is a lot of additional info out there on the Internet if you use the right words to find it.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask questions here. It is a very friendly group.

Wii !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Sports is fun, a lot of fun actually. I'm a Tennis Pro and a Bowling Pro. Working on the Baseball thing now. I won't tell you what happens when you get to be pro, you'll get the surprise :)

I've also got Rayman -- Throwing a cow is so fun !!! Amongst other things..

Don't forget to get to the Wii Store (using the internet connection) and get the free Opera Browser. Also, activate the Weather (it's free too).
