I have been trying to print a 5 x 7 greeting card in PSE5 for the last couple of days. Everytime it prints, it comes out 'longways.' For example, my test paper is a regular 8.5X11 sheet of paper. I choose the 5X7 dimension on the in the print options screen, and it comes out 5x7, but it's printed as 5(h) and 7(L). It needs to be 7(W) and 5(L). Ive chose landscape and portrait and it comes out the wrong way everytime - even when I choose custom dimensions. I've read a couple of posts in the forum where some people use a different program for printing greeting cards, such as print shop pro. Is PSE 5 not capable of printing out greeting cards so easily, or is it something else I'm missing?

Montrealf: When you get the Print dialog, have you tried going into Page Setup>Printer Settings and change the orientation at the printer level?

I've done that also. Is it the printer or the program? What do you think?

Unfortunately, I don't have PSE5 installed on this laptop (I'm traveling) so I can't test the phenomenon; hopefully, some others will be waking up soon and will chime in. Keep the faith!

The easiest way to do your card would be to place the 5 x 7 image on a new, blank file. Position it on the right side of the sheet, then specify Letter as the print size and you are done. Like this:

Printing a 7 x 5 image on letter sized paper without the added canvas is also possible. I'll leave that alone for now. :)

I will try this when I get home, but how big do you suggest the new, blank file to be? Also, how will that change the positioning of the image? You have it pictured like I need it to print out, but it's also pictured like that in 'print preview' yet it still comes out 'longways.'

If you rotated your image 90 degrees, would that solve the problem?

Nope, tried that too.

Your new, blank file should be exact letter size, 8.5 x 11 at the same resolution as the image, preferably between 200 and 300 ppi. You would be printing "sideways" and the Print Preview should look like this:

If you have a printer that doesn't print to the edges and arrange your image that close to the edge on your canvas, part of the image won't print. You will get a warning that says "The image is larger than the paper's printable area; some clipping will occur."
It's a little tricky figuring where to position the image so that when you fold the paper after printing that you have the same margin on the right and left of the image on the front of the card, but I have done it that way.
I have version 3.0 and disabled Organizer 'cause I don't use it and it was just a nuisance, but I believe there are templates for greeting cards in the "Create" function of the program.
When I make a card, I just prepare the image in Elements, save it, and then use a greeting card program (Sierra's Hallmark Studio) and import my image and print the card from there.

Juergen, that is EXACTLY how I need it to be printed and my print preview showed me that positioning just before printing, but it never came out that way.

I was thinking about getting another program for printing the greeting cards, but I didn't want to waste the money if PSE could do it. The templates in PSE arent working either.

You did not have your image placed on the full letter sized sheet, as I described above. Go ahead and do that, then try printing again.

OK. I will have to try that when I get home, but do you always have to use a little 'trickery' to print greeting cards like you want them? Are you able to print them directly from PSE?
