I keep getting an error message when trying to download my pictures. Never had this problem before just suddenly in the last week.
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
"(Microsoft ODBC Microsoft Access Driver) The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."
Don't understand what this is or how to fix it.
Thanks!
Susan

Hi Susan,
Welcome to the forums... :)
Hmmm... I don't know what this means or how to fix it either :? but this message obvioulsy has some connection to Microsoft Access - are you running this on your PC?

Hi Susan
Is this only happening when using PE3, or can you move the files from your camera in Windows?
Gary.

Let me back up a minute and give a couple details. A couple weeks ago I took a few pictures of flowers in my backyard. I downloaded them off the digital camera to the computer which goes directly to my PSE3 program. I tried something new when they all came up in the program. I started a new collection, then selected all and tried to put them in my new collection. If I recall correctly it didn't work and at that moment when I tried to put other photos already on the computer into a collection I got an error message:
The ODBC data source reported the following error:
"(Microsoft)(ODBC Microsoft Access Driver) The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again."
I was able to fix THIS problem yesterday after reading another posting on this message board saying to another person with the same problem, did you download a certain upgrade. There was an immediate link to that upgrade so I downloaded it myself and it was an immediate fix to my problem of not being able to take one of my photos and add it to a collection. I had hoped that too would solve my problem with getting the photos off my digital camera but it has not. While I have taken an ACCESS class, I never use it, but it is on my computer. I am guessing my problem isn't related to the MS ACCESS program....but I could be wrong. I have not tried to download the photos to any other program on my computer....As a last resort I will try to do that, but want to figure out what my problem here is. I got this ....jet database engine...error problem yesterday too when trying to do one other step during editing a photo...I cannot recall what exactly I was doing, but I do recall it did come up yesterday while trying to do a different task other than downloading my photos. I do appreciate your help. Susan

I just went over to my PE3 program and when I try to rotate an existing photo in my files, 90 degrees, I get this same error message....jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." Susan

I do not like "another person" on the computer. I get a message that when I am shutting down will says something like if I shut down now the other people on my computer will lose data. My feeling is if someone else is using my computer then GOOD they should lose their data. Somehow others can use your computer to access the internet? That is bogus for sure.

Sandie,
You have me a little confused ... is this related to the last messages or is this a problem you are having?
If this is a problem you are having ... do you have more than one computer in the house and are you maybe sharing a printer?

Is there any way somebody else is logged in to your computer?
I used to get the shutdown message all the time if I, or somebody else was logged in under a different account name.
Is there a possibility that Windows "upgraded" itself, or automatically downloaded a security update. I'm not sure how the auto update works, I have mine set on "notify" so that way I know if there is an update available and I download it myself.
Gary.

I am going to have to figure out how to plug my digital camera in and have it download into a file on Windows, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Like the rest of you, when I plug my camera into the computer it automatically goes to the PSE3 program....which I love!
There is nobody else on the computer. My husband is at work when I am working on this computer. When I read on the message board that someone else was having the same message as me when trying to move a photo into a collection, and they were able to rectify it by downloading the 3.0.1 upgrade, I went ahead and did the same and now I have no problem with moving a photo that is ALREADY in my PSE3 program, into a collection. But, the upgrade did NOT fix the problem with not being able to rotate a photo 90 degrees. It did NOT fix the problem (same error message) of being able to complete the process of downloading photos on the camera into PSE3.
I can't figure why MS ACCESS would have anything to do with this. While I took the class for that program last winter, I have not used it for anything since Easter. Let me try to download the photos to Windows and see if that process works. Still looking for help to correct this problem because I cannot use the program in the current state! Thanks much. Susan

Hi Susan
This is probably not it, but your husband can still be logged in even though he is at work. I used to have my 2 kids using this computer and we each had our own desktop. There was a way for them to be logged in even though they weren't using the computer. They weren't really logged in... they just hadn't logged out. I'm not sure if you have user accounts on your computer or not.
If all else fails you may need to get a card reader to download your pics to the computer.
I wish I could be more help
Gary.

It sounds like the problem is with the database driver. I've had the same issue since Microsoft did their last security update, and when I've installed/reinstalled, it hasn't gone away.
My solution has been to disable the Organizer and use Picasa to review photos, moving the ones I want to edit into a folder called "for editing", and using the file browser inside the editor to open my photos.
I'll look around on the Adobe support forums and see if anyone has a workaround other than installing/reinstalling, which didn't do anything for me at all.
In the meantime, I'd suggest NOT using the Organizer until they can mesh with the security updates in a reasonable fashion.
Oh, I did have one thought with respect to the SPECIFIC problem on this thread....
Make sure your camera doesn't start the renumbering process over again every time you download from your card. If you're trying to download DSC_001, for example, and you've already got photos numbered that way, it won't download them to save you from tearing your hair out when you discover you overwrote your best pics from Aunt Flora's wedding.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions and thoughts to this "situation" I have with not being able to download photos from the digital camera to Adobe PSE3 program.
Thanks for the thought my husband might be on our computer from work. I asked him that and he reminded me that it is impossible for him to as he works at a certain company that has blocks to outside (unsecure) computers. He assures me he is not on the computer. In fact, I still have the problem when he is sitting in the other room watching t.v.
My husband said he would download any Microsoft updates that may be available on the internet this weekend that he has yet to install, to see if that helps. One thing we did last night was go onto MS ACCESS program and go into the "help" application and sure enough when you put in to look up "ODBC data source" there is a ton of "help" information. You put in "jet database engine" and again there is "help" information. While I am not a computer programmer, I just have to think about how the problem may be linked between ACCESS and Adobe Photoshop Elements 3. I took an ACCESS class last winter and I sure have no clue how the two programs could be interlinked....again, just have to think this out. I do appreciate all the responses I receive...that's what got me to think further on the link between the two programs and go check out the "help" section of ACCESS, that I would just never imagined when this first popped up. Thanks again very much. Susan

I continue to have the same problems with not being able to download my camera photos into organizer. I CAN download them directly to the computer by bypassing Adobe PSE3. I cannot even scan a photo or anything into PSE3....cannot email photos from PSE3....cannot rotate a photo in PSE3. I continue to get this message that says someone is already trying to work on the photo in MS Access. How can this be possible on a picture I am for the very moment trying to scan into the computer?? What good is it to have a program that one cannot even use!!!
I copies all 1,300 of my photos to 5 disks. I understand from a previous reply to my problem that the person had the same problem and it was not fixed by deinstalling and reinstalling.
Does anyone have a comment on whether it would do any good to deinstall PSE3 and go out and buy PSE4 and install that???
Thanks.....Susan

Susan ...
I don't think that the answer is to purchase more software as you may well have the same problems with that ... but it is so puzzling as to what is going on.
Have you actually got Access installed on your computer?

Wendy,
Thanks for your note. Indeed we do have MS Access on the computer. While my husband and I have taken a beginning class on MS Access, earlier this year, neither of us use the program. I have NO idea how I got messed up in Adobe PSE3 and it's connection to MS Access. I have researched the various key words that I am getting in my error messages in both Adobe PSE3 and MS Access and I have no clue how to resolve my problem. It is quite sad for me as I truly love using the organizer in the Photoshop program. Not even being able to rotate a photo is frustrating. But, I do appreciate your note that buying additional software may not be the answer either.
Thanks much....

If I'm not mistaken you should be able to access the catalog database using Access.
However, it is a problem with the driver for the jet database ODBC that needs to be updated to possibly resolve the problem. Check it out at the Microsoft Site and see if there are updates for that purpose.
It may not be a critical update and thus just sitting there waiting to be discovered.

Susan ...
If neither of you are using it I wonder if it may be an idea to unistall it then unistall PSE3 too and try doing a new clean install of PSE3?
