First time post here. I use PSE3 and have been thinking of upgrading to PSE5, do I need to upgrade to PSE4 first. Not sure if this has been asked before.
Thanks Todd

Hi Todd,
No, you don't - each version is a standalone program.
(I've recently upgraded from v2 to v5.)

First of all "Welcome"!
I do not think you need to upgrade to 4 before 5 from 3
I am sure if I am wrong someone will be along but I think you can go straight to 5 as I believe 5 is not an upgrade but a separate peice of software,

Hi Todd ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I think that the confusion comes about because Adobe have offered an "upgrade" ... but that has been simply a cheaper price to people who already have Elements.. It doesn't upgrade the software itself :)

We have PSE 2.0, came with a printer, but all info I found said we could not upgrade from 2 to 4. (That was a while ago). Was told we needed to have 3.0 or later to upgrade. Can you provide some info as to how to accomplish this? What did it cost to do the upgrade from 2.0 to 5.0?

Gary, you can upgrade from 2 to 5 with no problems because they are stand alone programs. You can keep them both on your computer at the same time. You just can't run them at the same time. Not sure what the current upgrade cost to 5 is but alot of stores have it on sale for around $60 to $70 right now.

I just bought it from Adobe's website as an upgrade (which cost me around £47 in UK money for the download version). It said I needed to have a previous version to qualify for the upgrade price. (Any version.)
The installation routine stated that it had found PSE2 already installed - I assume it would have stopped (or perhaps asked for a CD?) if it hadn't found it.

Kim.... I realize that they are stand alone programs, but I guess I just got some bad info about not being able to upgrade 2.0.
Gareth.... Ouch on the £47. That converts to $92.51 USD. It costs $99.95 new from B&H here. Maybe the upgrade price is cheaper in the USA. I can get the academic version for $69.95. The upgrade price would have to smother the academic price to make it an alternative for me.
Did you get a file you could save to your hard drive, and then do the installation from there, therefore, allowing you to install the software on a new computer when one buys or builds a new computer?
Edit: I see the upgrade price is $79.95. Not much of a savings. I'm used to seeing real savings for upgrades.

Best Buy and Stapels have both had PSE5 on sale recently for $49.99. Probably will be on sale for that price again soon if it isn't still.

Yes - I have a file that I've written safely to CD so I can re-install at a later date. However, I think I can re-download it from Adobe if I need to anyway - my stored account details include what I've purchased and the serial number.

Ouch. Considering the exchange rate isn't far off two dollars to the pound, it's a lot more expensive over here. :(

Thank you for the info. :) That’s a standard I’ve become used to, but sometimes it seems Adobe does business a little different, so I had to ask.

That’s considerably cheaper than the upgrade price at Adobe. At that price, it sounds like a good deal, even if it wouldn’t be my main photo editing program.
