I recently installed PSE5 and was so happy everything has been working fine.
Tonight I thought I would try to do album pages - twice it crashed my computer. I have Windows XP Professional. The first time I had six photos in place and decided to change the theme, then lost them all - forgot to save as I went along.:o Second time I had only just got going and it went again.
Please please can anyone help?

Jeeps,
You can try a File>Catalog>Recover. This often helps straighten out quirky Organizer problems. If not, post back and we'll see about a better answer.

Thank you so much Ward, that did the trick. I had again tried to do the album pages before reading your post and received a Microsoft Windows report saying the system has recovered from a serious error:eek: so I was mightily relieved.
The only other problem now is when I open the Creations-Album Pages I only get one page of the wizard, ie no Next Step to click and it's the same page as the Photo Layout page - perhaps this is why the Album I did create is viewed as separate pages and not as a book, although in Editor I can flip the pages using the arrows.
I'm not very good at explaining things but hope you can understand what I mean. Any help would be much appreciated.

The photo layout and album page wizards are definitely the same. Also, I tried to just two photos using the wizard, they went in ok, closed the photos without saving, went to close Editor and it crashed - did this twice. Came up with:
The system has recovered from a serious error:
C:\DOCUME~1\Ruth\LOCALS~Temp\WER5bac.dir00\Mini121 906~01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Ruth\LOCALS~Temp\WERSbac.dir001\sysdat a.xml
(think I've copied them right)
Do you think I should uninstall it? So fed up at the moment as my mum has just gone into a Nursing Home and is not settling at all, she has dementia. Coming on here and doing my photos really helps as it's so absorbing and I can forget things for a bit. Oh dear! I do feel sorry for myself :o :o :o
Have to go out now but will check in later.

Jeeps, I don't know the answer to your Elements problem, but I wanted to give you a "chin up" regarding your mother. That must be awful -- knowing that you can't really help her. I hope your Elements problem gets resolved soon. It's so absorbing to play with the photos that you kind of forget for a while that there's anything bad in the world.

Hi ...
Being a Mac user I can't help either ... but so sorry about your Mum. Give it a little time until it starts to seem familier to her and then hopefully she will settle down OK :)
It must be really upsetting for you ...

Hi ...
Being a Mac user I can't really help but I'm sure that one of the Windows users will be able to ... could you just let us know a little more about your computer specifications ??
... and did you have anything running like Norton when you did the fresh install ??
Wendy :)

Hi Wendy
Thanks for your reply I was getting quite despondent.
I did have Norton running on the fresh install (although not on the original install) so I am now going to reinstall again and disable Norton.
Just a few minutes ago I managed to do album pages, it did it ok, saved and closed and then went to close the Editor and it crashed again:mad:

Me again  The install went well and the editor is ok doing the normal things like cropping, layers etc. I am so tired now that I don't think I'll try doing a creation, frightened if I have to go through all that again. Must admit am not feeling confident the creations side of it is ever going to work. Was wondering if it could be anything to do with my memory - not that I know much about it.
I have Windows XP professional, new this year with a c and d drive, if that helps. Just hoping someone comes along to set me right.

Hi ...
I honestly don't know what to suggest ... the problem is if you don't try it then you won't really know if its working OK this time ..
... but I can understand why you don't want to :)

I'm sorry to hear about your mother and hope things settle down in that area.
As for your photo creations, could you confirm if your crashes happen on the same pictures (would indicate corrupted files) or every time, regardless of which pictures you use (would be a system problem).
In the meantime, you can try some steps which may help:
I would do the following in sequence:
File>Catalog>Recover (helps straighten out the database)
File>Reconnect>All Missing-if any are found, either delete from catalog [but not from the hard drive] or reconnect the missing files.
Edit>Select All then Edit>Update Thumbnails For Selected this may take some time if you have a large number of pictures-do so when you can walk away from the computer for 30 minutes or so
File>Catalog>Recover again just to straighten out the catalog again.

I have had the most awful day.
Telephoned Adobe UK, they sent me 2 emails with suggestions which didn't work, one of which was to uninstall PSE4 as it could be that. According to everyone on here you can have any version installed but use only one at a time. Still I did as I was asked, big mistake.
Eventually rang up again, was on phone for half hour during which the guy lost all my photos, so I had to do a restore. He then rung me back and was on the phone for an hour and in between him telling me what to do the Editor crashed my system 3 times. Now he says the office is closed and he will ring me back in the morning.
He couldn't seem to grasp that everything works fine except when I use Creations, was trying to blame everything but the fact that I could have a faulty disc.
Is this expert advice? Wish I'd never bought PSE5 and stuck with my PSE4:twisted:
