OK do-it-yourselfers, this one's for you. This week's theme is something that is handmade or homemade. It is not necessary to be something done by 'your' hands or in 'your' home.

The fine print:
Because the purpose of the weekly theme is to get us more familiar with our cameras and to sharpen our photographic skills, entries should be taken during the week of the theme.
Photoshopping is allowed.

I have two, both paintings done by a friend of ours. We commissioned her to paint a portrait of our cats. It's 3'X4' and has a lot of whimsy and elements from our house. We have most of the items pictured; the view, the clock, the Empire Sofa, the statue, the deer  , and we agreed on what goes into the painting and she was allowed to have at it. The turkey was put under the couch for that was Chester's favorite food. Only 2 cats are still with us so it is a fun testimony to all those felines who have graced us with their presence.

Mr. Putz came to live with us right after the above was finished. He didn't live long, and he was such a great cat, that we asked Leslie to do another, smaller painting of him. We called him Mr. Lucky at times, so the painting has the music to that Mancini song slowly fading into the stars. This one started as a "Putz in Boots" concept and here is the end result. We have only had this a couple months and have not yet had it framed, but it hangs in the front hall.

In memory of an aunt of mine who died a few years back and, in the house clearing, I found this tapestry she'd made many years ago of the cottage the family had in England when I was a kid. Brought back lots of happy memories and we brought it back to Canada, had it cleaned and framed and is hanging above my computer. It was south of London and called "Doodlebug Retreat". Check this link to understand the significance of the name:

This was also an experiment in using a pair of Ott lights (see another thread) as the light source - worked well. Used Auto White Balance, 1/40 sec, f4, ISO 400 with the picture under glass. Colours at least on my monitor matched the original exactly without any adjustments. The frame wasn't so good due to reflections so in the spirit of this challenge I handmade one (with help from Jodi :)). Haven't got the matting right yet (I'm trying to match the look of the original) but I'll post anyway.

Here's mine. This is a basket I just finished making, and coincidentally, it's sitting on a quilt that I made a long time ago. I took the picture just for my records, so I didn't do much straightening and prettying up the background.

Well, I created this floral arrangement from scratch and that's a feat for me! Does that count as homemade?

I also am going to do two, if I can figure out how. The first one is a nativity scene made by my mother ( age 75) the stable by my father (age 80)

The second one is a bowl made by my very talented sister, who is actually showing her work at a gallery in Seattle.

What a timely theme! I have just finished this hooked stocking for our daughter's boyfriend. They have just come from London to spend Christmas on Galiano with us. Gillian had mentioned to me that Fred did not have a stocking (very big in our family). So I have just finished this one for him. Now he has the nicest one in the family.

Cheers,
Helen

P.S. Their happy news when they arrived was that they are engaged! :D

This is a quilted wall hanging I did about 3 years ago, before I discovered this forum and used to have lots of time.

I should have taken a cue from Bill and kept the most important ingredients closer (brandy in this case) but my tries at shots of home made chocolate truffles were unappealing to say the least. Instead here's some hand woven light covers.

Here is mine.
my son who is 28 made this for me years and years ago...
It sits on top of the computer desk under the monitor. I had no idea how dirty it was or how much cat hair was stuck to it untill I took the picture. I placed him so he would get soft light on the side of his face from the window. :p
