View Full Version : Upgrade from PSE4 to PSE5

I bought Photoshop Elements about 6 to 8 months and even took a short (6 hr) course in it. Then Photoshop Elements 5 came out. Now what? Is there an upgrade path from PSE4 to PSE5, or do I have to buy the whole software package over again. Right now, PSE4 does just about everything I need and, having taken a course, I see no immediate need to buy the software all over again, unless there is a simple (cheap) upgrade path as there is with so many other software packages. If someone can sort this out for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well its up to you:)
I was not going to go to 5 but with the addition of a video camera to the house hold I wanted to get some good simple video editing software so
Premiere Elements was a logical solution. I got the bundle set of Premiere 3 and Photo Elements 5:D To this point 5 is very nice it has some aspects that have been simplified and others that are more automated, Some are the same and the one I like the best so far is the Organizer has been improved quite a bit.
I still have a vast amount to learn about both programs but the people around here are very talented and very helpful.

The pricing policy in the UK is that users of older versions get a discount, but it's not that much - only about £12.
As I was upgrading from v2 to v5, I didn't think that was too bad, but I wouldn't have upgraded from v4 at that price if I'd only had it a few months.

The questions you need to ask are:
1. What features are in v5 but not v4?
2. Do you need/want those features?
3. If so, do you need/want them enough to justify the upgrade cost?

Hi there ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

If you are happy enough with PSE4 then just stick with it ...

I'd say grab a demo version of 5 (http://www.adobe.com/go/tryphotoshop_elements_win_landing), play around with it and see if you like it.

If 4 does what you want, you're good to go - but 5 does have quite a few cool new things to it.

I would not go fron PSE 4 to 5
Wait for version 6
I tend to leapfrog so as to get best value from investment
I went from 3 to 5 and I think it was a fair move, however there isnt as much change as I was expecting
The interface is better, a bit slicker. Theres not much, if any, diff in Brushes / Syles and so on - so by not having PSE 5 you wont be too disadvantaged in output.
