Does anyone know if it is possible to create a Collection (or even a Collection Group) and then burn the contents to a CD or DVD? I'd like to take some pictures from a family event, place them in the right order and then burn them to a CD or DVD so I can give the CD or DVD to family members so they can make prints of whatever they want but I'd like some order to the pictures and I would rather not have to rename all of these files to create a progression that way. Any help would be appreciated. Gary.

Gary: I do remember this came up before and hopefully someone will remember the thread because I haven't found it yet - but collections won't do it as they just track the thumbnail order not the files.

As I recall file order is just dependent on how you view them - look at them in Windows and it can be any one of several orders - file creation date/time, alphabetical, file size etc. Then it becomes a question of getting the files into that order.

I still have Photoshop Elements 3.0, so my comments are based on a brief tryout of the 5.0 version.

I am not sure if I am getting to the core of your question, but have you checked out File/Copy/Move Offline command to get what you are looking for? It is described in the Photoshop Elements 5.0 Help section. There is also very good coverage of the topic in Barbara Brundage's book Photoshop Elements 5.0 The Missing Manual.

Just an add on.

After posting I was not sure if you wanted to do the burning with Photoshop Elements 5.0 burn software or something else.

Below is a link to a Thread to which I contributed a few months ago. Not sure if it will help, but....

Because you want a specific order for viewers, I think that doing the Export and Rename before burning the photo files to a CD is the most practical option.

I understand why you do not want to do the rename - but because you want the specific order of the collection and most other programs will default to sequencing by file name - it seems that renaming to preserve order is the practical solution.

Now IF the photos are from the same camera at the same event and IF you want the photos to be viewed in the order taken - then the existing photo file names will PROBABLY give you the sequence that you want. So all you need to do is burn them to a CD. However many times there is at least one exception to wanting the photos in sequence taken.

You can display that Collection, then Select All (all thumbnails of Collection will show selected), before you start the burn process from PSE. When doing the actual CD burn from PSE, be very careful to choose Copy and NOT check the box for MOVE.

Personally, I still think the Export Rename to a new folder then burn all photo files in that new folder with your CD burning software is a simpler process.
