Hi all,

I am not sure of the difference between effects and styles. Are they the same thing but called styles in 5.0 now?

I have a few effects from www.atomiccupcake.com (http://www.atomiccupcake.com) and want to install them into my 5.0. She doesn't have installation directions for 5.0 posted and they may not work, but I want to try. (I did have them installed and working in my 4.0 version.) Any idea how?

i really want to easiely make painted chipboard letters for my digital scrapbooking pages AND I am trying to accomplish this today so I can finish my Christmas card. (Just a little behind schedule...)

Huge thanks!

Well I decided to buy Graffi's Add o Matic...I hope this helps.

I still don't understand the difference b/t styles, actions, and effects. i think they are all the same thing with different names, but I thought actions only worked in PS, not in PSE.

Add-O-Matic will do it for you -

Here's a quick (nit-pickers, lay off!) outline of effects vs. styles vs. actions:

Effects are generally filters - plugins. They add an effect to the image like emboss or pixelate, etc. Effects are generally one-and-done, meaning that once you apply them, they're not additionally editable unless you undo them first. Gaussian Blur is another example of an effect.

Styles are "live" effects, meaning that you can alter them later on by changing the direction of a shadow or changing the degree of a bevel. Layer styles can also be combined to create additional effects, and they can then be <Alt> + dragged onto other layers to apply the same style to those layers - even layers in different documents.

Actions are little playback routines (like macros in Word) that have been recorded earlier. They can be any combination of effects, styles, commands like resize or crop, add text, etc. Once recorded (in PS, not PSE) and saved, they can be played back later on any image. Some commands in actions are not available in PSE, and that will render the entire action unusable for Elements users.

hope that helps -
