Hi everyone
I have photographed a friends little dog. Rather than experiencing red eye as with humans, the dog has a circle of blue eye. What's the best way to get rid of it?
Thanks

Cathy ,
I've had that happen to me before too. There is an article in the techniques Vol 3 #5, p. 12-13 that works quite well.

Yea -- that happened to me too with my cats, but their eyes turned out bright green. I fixed mine by selecting the green parts with a brush on mask, then feathered the mask, then create a hue adjustment layer and played around until the color was about right. After that I collapsed the adjustment layer and zoomed in close and painted on a black inner pupil to make it look more realistic. To finish it off, I reloaded the same selection and then added noise to make the eyes look real. You can also over-sharpen the selection to create the same effect. The above is a variant of a technique I learned on a facial retouch DVD that came with my Elements subscription. Hope that helps. Enjoy.

Hi ...

This is how I do Red eye ... but you can easily adapt it for any colour. Just select a different colour from the edit box and reduce the saturation until the colour is removed. (You may have to use more than one colour)

For red eye try:

Select the red area plus a few pixels ... feather a little.
Enhance>colour>hue & sat> ... select red from the edit box and reduce saturation to zero or thereabouts
Enhance>Brightness & contrast>levels .. move the left hand marker in about a third of the way and move the centre marker over to the right until the area goes dark ... not too far or it will look artificial.

Hope this helps :)

Wendy,
Your method sounds very cool... I'll have to give it a whirl. I think it would also retain more of the natural eye image. As always, thanks for sharing.
