Blend modes

I know what blend modes do in the layers palette, but how do you use blend mode options that show up in the context sensitive menus for the Marquee tool, Clone Stamp and Pattern Stamp tools, pencil tool, pen tool, paint bucket and gradient tool?

Hi, Chuck - they work the same way, only in applying the paint stroke instead of adjusting the entire layer blend.

Subtle in most cases, but effective when you need it to be. Remember, artists don't use just one tool just one way!
