Hi

Welcome to the forums.:)

Probaly the easiest way would be to use the rounded corner rectangular shape tool. Set the radius in the option box and drag it out.
Then use that as a selection to crop.

You can use the cookie cutter to crop an image to any shape in the custom shapes palette. In that palette, there is a set called "Shapes" which has a rounded corner rectangle you can use.

Gary, in my Elements 3.0 I tried to use the rounded corner shape tool to define a selection and use Image > Crop. It crops it that size, but doesn't retain the rounded corners.

I was thinking more along the lines of ctrl-click the shape thumbnail to get the selection and then ctrl-j to copy it on its own layer.

Not really a "crop" but the same outcome.

I really don't like cropping .. too paranoid that I am not working on a copy and I will resave over the original.:D

Gary, Ah, I see. There's a way around everything in this program, isn't there.:)

Hi ...

One thing to bare in mind is that you will be able to crop the layer with roinded corners but the file itself will still be a rectangle without rounded corners :)

Another way is to use the Rectangular Marquee tool. Draw the rectangle, then go >Select >Modify >Smooth and fill in a number of pixels. Depending on the size of the image that number can be changed to get the desired effect. Try 50 pixels to start. Then place the selection on a new layer (Ctrl-J).
