Being quite new to PSE and photography, I am hoping you all can give me some advice or assistance of any kind. I've been trying to learn as much as I can, and have been working on all the tutorials......not always successfully....and some of this is beginning to somewhat connect. (Although this 57 year old brain doesn't retain things long....then again, maybe it's those Manhattan's at 5 p.m.)
Anyway, this is a photo of our precious Katherine Rose. Our daughter and son-in-law adopted her 9 months ago. She is the first child in this family since my daughter was born, 35 years ago. I know you Grandparents out there can appreciate the complete joy and fullness of heart we feel.
I wanted to do something with this photo, but I am not certain what to do, or what it needs. I'd love suggestions and/or help in any way. Now remember, I'm OLD and a NEWBIE :) So any assistance must be within my learning curve. :)
I know you all are busy with your own projects, but if you can spare any time to help I would so appreciate it.

Hope I posted this properly, and thanks so much all of you.

I am a 56 year OLD -somewhat- newbie myself. I can't give you any help, but I wanted to welcome you just the same.

That is a beautiful picture of your granddaughter. I love the mood with the dark background. Do you want to make a scrapbook or are you just looking for help in editing the photo for framing? I'm sure there are many people on this fourm who can give you excellent advice. Congratulations on your happy event. I have a 64 year old brain so you're just a spring chicken.

The little girl is very precious in the photo. To me it is a bit dark and melancholy...a bit sad. Maybe that can help you with a theme. Kinda a Mommy will make it better type of picture Theme. Maybe a oval frame with some text? What's that old song....Hush little baby don't say a word....mamma's gonna buy you a mocking bird....
I tried to get the picture to give an idea....but it was an .ART file. Not sure how to get that. Might be something I am doing...sorry.

Brent,
Thanks for the input. I do agree about the melancholy feel to the photo. It was a very long and tiring day for the baby, and you are correct. My daughter was comforting her. I loved the idea about the quote too. And the one you suggested was perfect! "Hush little baby....."
I am only sorry I couldn't see your idea, as my creative talents are not too strong in PSE.
I probably messed up something posting the photo to Pixentral. I thought I had saved for web as a .jpg, but maybe I did something wrong.......Well what a surprise that would be!!! :D
Charles, thank you so much for your warm welcome and kind words. I especially love your photo of the Michigan Bridge. And your others also brought back some wonderful memories of years spent in the Midwest... Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, to name a few.
And Susan, thank you too so much for your kindness. I don't think I want to do a scrapbook page....... just would like help with maybe the editing it needs and/or a bit of creativeness. I will leave the incredible scrapbooking pages to you and some of the other wondrous pages I've seen. I especially love the page of your little Rachael in the Autumn Leaves. Both the page and Rachael are beautiful.
Again, to each of you....thanks......you have no idea of how special you all are, and how your kindness makes such a difference. Wish we could all hang out together for some good Texas Ribs and homebrew.........or whatever your heart desires. So when y'all get too cold........remember me in Houston and Y'ALL COME!!!

Oh Kev!!!!!
Now that the tears have stopped, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful and touching work you did on the photo. Actually, the tears haven't stopped, but I have a kleenex close by.
I think my daughter would just treasure that. Is there some way I could use your idea, or learn how? Or just frame the photo as a gift from Grandma Mary Ann and "Uncle Kev"? :) ;)
God Bless You and many many thanks....

Mary Ann,
It brought tears to my eyes as well. Bravo, Kev, you have done a wonderful job of combining the photo and the poem! The sentiment is perfect for the occasion. The collage has a wonderul warm feel to it.
Cheers,

Mary Ann,
I did this at 300 ppi resolution so it should print OK.
I'll send it to you. No need to mention me on the print. Hope you daughter likes it as much as you.

Mary Ann,
I forgot to mention that the poem is called - Child Of My Heart.
I think that's a good title for the print as well.

Kev,
It is said, "Gratitude is the memory of the heart", and my heart is full.
Thank you so very much. I'm sorry though... I will have to mention your name and tell my daughter, when she receives this as a Christmas gift. And you name will also be mentioned in my prayers this evening. I am touched. Thank you.

Brent, All you have to do is right click on the pixentral image, select Copy, then go to Elements, File > New > Blank File (make sure Present says Clipboard) > Ok, then Edit > Paste to bring the image into Elements.

Kev,
I really love what you did with Mary Ann's photo. I've seen that poem before on a commercial frame. It's a wonderful sentiment.

Hi Carol,
What I do with a many of the images I create for gifts (especially if the image has a stroke or frame in the design already) is buy an acrylic frame to put the image in like the ones at this site: http://www.pfile.com/cgi/cart.cgi?db=stuff.dat&search=MCS+Bent+Acrylic+Frames+-+Horizontal&method=phrase
I usually get them at Michaels or here in Michigan at Meijer. For Images that have special borders, this type of frame really displays the image without any distraction of a physical frame. You can also get acrylic frames with the magnet backing for refrigerators, etc., which I also use for gift images sometimes.

Kev, Great job and a true tribute to the spirit of this board. People helping people. Not only was it generous of you but others like myself were able to learn from it. Way to go!!!!

Hi All,
thanks for the kind comments but it was very easy to do.
I had a beautiful photo to start with, a poem by an unknown writer, the verse was appropriate for the situation. Finally I had a nice background from PSE 5's Artwork.

Diana, what a great idea. Never thought of that. I like all the frames that everyone puts around their photos, but was wondering how they would look framed with the printed frame behind it, so I always just cropped off the frame in PSE. I'll go to Michaels and buy a clear frame just out of curiousity. Thanks.
