Hi,
I just finished day 8 of the online training. I opened the photo in PSE3. It then tells me that the photo does not have a color profile associated with it. When I choose any one of the options the photo opens in PSE. I do not see the "camera raw settings dialog box" as shown in the lesson.
Help!

Gwyn,

Is the image you are trying to open a RAW file (e.g. crw or nef)?

Have you installed the latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in?

Mike,

The file is .nef.tiff - downloaded from the day 8 training. I don't think I have the Camera RAW plug-in. Where do I get that?

Thanks!

Thanks Wendy,

I downloaded the file and followed the installation instructions but I still do not see the "camera raw settings dialog box" as shown in the lesson.

The file is .nef.tiff - downloaded from the day 8 training.
Gwyn,

There must be something wrong with the file - it should only have one file extension - either nef or tiff - not both.

The file in Day 8 is a RAW image in Nikon nef format so your file should just have a nef extension. The name of the file is formatphotoworkflow_8__DSC0203.nef.

When I open this file the Camera Raw dialog box opens. I suggest you download the image again.

Let me know how you get on.

Gwyn when you choose Save As to download the image file, check in the box where it says "Save As Type" that it shows 'All Files'.
If you have MS Office installed it may say Save As 'Microsoft Office Document Imaging File' instead, this will append the .tif extension to it whereas saving under 'All Files' will leave just the .Nef extension intact.
However this may not solve your problem as I have saved the file as both the .Nef file and .Nef.Tif and it brings up the Raw window in both cases for me.
Worth a try renaming the .tif to just .nef anyway to see how it behaves, it would appear the NEF and Tif format are closely related as you can view it as a tif file in any image editor. Are all RAW formats just tif in disguise?

Just changing the file extension works on the Mac ... but I don't know if it would using windows.

I made the same mistake and got the .tiff extension added. Windows will let you rename it and take the .tiff off the end and it then works fine. Just right click the file and rename. Of course windows will tell you that messing with extensions is BAD but you can ignore the warning :)

Hi Everyone,

You were right! I downloaded the file again and it opened correctly. There is only 1 extension - .nef -Thanks!

Oh thats is brilliant news ... now you can try it out for yourself :)

The Camera Raw training is excellent, it had encouraged me to go our and try shooting in Raw. Somehow seeing someone doing the corrections is so much easier than just reading about it.
